Description And Operation
The engine block consists of a upper crankcase (1) and a lower crankcase. The two units are connected with bolts arranged along the perimeter and studs placed on the lower part of the crankcase. The entire crankcase is in aluminum.
Right side connecting bolts. One of the bolts is within the oil pump cavity.
Left side connecting bolts.
Front side connecting bolts.
Upper to lower crankcase studs.
There are 16 connection studs between the upper crankcase and the lower crankcase. They are held in place by nuts.
There are two rubber gasket sections between the upper crankcase and the lower crankcase.

On the front of the upper crankcase is the water pump housing (1), and two main coolant supply channels (2). In the upper part of the crankcase, in the middle of the "V" are the holes for oil and water flow inside the heat exchanger, to cool the engine oil.
- Interface surface for oil filter support (1).
- Exit channel for oil in the filter (2).
- Intake channel for oil in the filter (coming from the exchanger) (3).
- Outlet opening for the coolant supply pipe towards the heater core (4).
- Interface surface for oil cooler (5).
- Inlet channel (left) and outlet (right) for oil flow in the exchanger (6).
- Inlet channel (left) and outlet (right) for coolant low in the exchanger (7).
- Intake pump chamber for coolant (8).
- Interface surface for the thermostat (9).
In the lower crankcase part are the intake (1) and exhaust (2) piston oil cooler jets.
The cylinders have steel sleeves. They are inserted hot into the housings formed in the block.
In the lower part of the sleeve, are three ring seals (2) in order to contain any coolant (1) infiltration.
In addition to supplying support to the crankshaft, the lower crankcase also represents the structural part that allows limitation of the crankshaft deformation caused by the powerful stress it is subjected to.
