Removal And Installation: Left

REMOVAL
- Remove the left timing chain and sprocket. Refer to
CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the bolt (1a) securing the ground wire (1b).
- Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Remove the bolt (2a) fixing the wiring retaining collar (2b).
- Open the wiring retaining clip (1a) and disconnect knock sensor wire harness connector (1b).
- Disconnect the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid wire harness connectors (1).
- Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1) for cylinder No. 4 - 5 ignition coils.
- Disconnect the intake side Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Disconnect the exhaust side CMP sensor wire harness connector (2).
- Disconnect the air temperature and pressure sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Disconnect the fuel pump pressure regulator wire harness connector.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and release the wiring (1b).
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) of cylinder ignition coil No. 6.
- Disconnect the wastegate valve wire harness connector (2).
- Disconnect the throttle body wire harness connector (1a) and release the wiring from the clip (1b).
- Remove the bolt (1a) securing the high pressure fuel pipe (1b) to the intake manifold.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine oil vapor diverter valve (1b) complete with O-ring (1c).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the intake manifold (1b).
- Remove the gasket.
- Remove the low pressure fuel tube connector (3).NOTE:
The high pressure pipe must always be replaced each time it is removed.
- Loosen the high pressure fuel pipe connector (1).
- Loosen the connector (1a) and remove the high pressure fuel pipe (1b).
- Disconnect the fuel injector wire harness connectors (1).
- Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector (2).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and release the pressure pump wiring retaining bracket (1b).NOTE:
Handle the pressure pump with care because accidental knocks could compromise its operation.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the pressure pump complete with wiring retaining bracket (1b).
- Remove the roller tappet (1).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the ignition coils (1b).
- Loosen the band (1) and disconnect the vacuum air pipe.
- Remove the bolts (2) securing the vacuum air pipe to the cylinder head.
- Loosen the band (1) and disconnect the wastegate valve actuator side of the vacuum air pipe.
- Remove the bolts (1) securing the vacuum air pipes to the cylinder head covers.
- Disconnect the quick connector (1) of the vacuum air pump side of the vacuum pipe.
- Remove the bolts (2a) and the solenoid valve (2b) complete with pipes.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine oil vapor recovery pipe (1b) complete with O-ring.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the vacuum pump (1b).
- Remove the gasket.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the CMP sensors (1b) complete with O-rings (1c).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the VVT solenoids (1b) complete with O-rings (1c).
- Remove the (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft) (1).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the tappet cover (1b).
- Remove the cylinder head cover gaskets (1 - 2).
- Remove the O-rings from the engine oil ducts.
- Remove the residues of sealant from the cylinder head and tappet cover, using a suitable scraper, taking care not to damage the surfaces.
INSTALLATION
- Install a NEW cylinder head gasket, inserting it in the groove provided in the cylinder head.
- Install the NEW engine oil duct O-rings, inserting them in the grooves provided in the cylinder head.
- Apply a bead of Dow Corning® sealant, 2 +/- 0.5 mm in the points shown in illustration (1).
- Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the bolts finger tight.
- Using the tightening sequence shown in illustration, tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a NEW
O-ring, install the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoids (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a NEW O-ring, install the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensors (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a NEW gasket, install the vacuum pump and securely tighten the bolts.
- Using a NEW O-ring, install the engine oil vapor recovery pipe and securely tighten the bolts.
- Install the wastegate control solenoid valve complete with pipes and securely tighten the bolts.
- Connect the rapid connector of the vacuum air pump side of the vacuum pipe.
- Connect the vacuum air hoses to their respective rigid pipes and tighten the bands.
- Install the ignitions coils (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Place the roller tappet back in its housing.
- Using a NEW O-ring, install the pressure pump (1a) complete with a wiring retaining bracket and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the pressure pump wiring retaining bracket bolts and securely tighten.
- Connect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector.
- Connect the fuel injector wire harness connectors.
- Install the NEW
high pressure fuel tube (1a) to the fuel rail and tighten the connector (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten the high pressure fuel tube connector (1) at the pressure pump and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the low pressure fuel tube and tighten the connector (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Securely tighten the bolts (1) of the high pressure fuel pipe intermediate bracket.
- Using a NEW gasket, install the intake manifold and tighten the bolts finger tight.
- Using the tightening sequence shown in illustration, tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a NEW O-ring, install the engine oil vapor diverter valve and securely tighten the bolts.
- Connect the throttle body wire harness connector and engage the wiring with the retaining clips.
- Connect the wastegate solenoid valve wire harness connector.
- Connect the cylinder ignition coil No. 6 wire harness connector.
- Tighten the bolts securing the engine wiring.
- Connect the fuel pump pressure regulator wire harness connector.
- Connect the air temperature and pressure sensor wire harness connector.
- Connect the intake CMP sensor wire harness connectors.
- Connect the exhaust CMP sensor wire harness connectors.
- Connect the wire harness connectors for cylinder No. 4 - 5 ignition coils.
- Connect the VVT solenoid wire harness connector.
- Connect the knock sensor wire harness connector and engage the respective wiring with the retaining clip.
- Tighten the bolt securing the wiring retaining collar and securely tighten.
- Connect the fuel pressure sensor wire harness connector.
- Install the bolt securing the ground wire and securely tighten bolt.
- Install the left timing chain and sprocket. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
