Removal And Installation: Left

REMOVAL 

  1. Remove the left timing chain and sprocket. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  2. Remove the bolt (1a) securing the ground wire (1b).

  3. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor wire harness connector (1).
  4. Remove the bolt (2a) fixing the wiring retaining collar (2b).

  5. Open the wiring retaining clip (1a) and disconnect knock sensor wire harness connector (1b).

  6. Disconnect the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid wire harness connectors (1).

  7. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1) for cylinder No. 4 - 5 ignition coils.

  8. Disconnect the intake side Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor wire harness connector (1).

  9. Disconnect the exhaust side CMP sensor wire harness connector (2).
  10. Disconnect the air temperature and pressure sensor wire harness connector (1).
  11. Disconnect the fuel pump pressure regulator wire harness connector.

  12. Remove the bolts (1a) and release the wiring (1b).

  13. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) of cylinder ignition coil No. 6.
  14. Disconnect the wastegate valve wire harness connector (2).

  15. Disconnect the throttle body wire harness connector (1a) and release the wiring from the clip (1b).

  16. Remove the bolt (1a) securing the high pressure fuel pipe (1b) to the intake manifold.

  17. Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine oil vapor diverter valve (1b) complete with O-ring (1c).

  18. Remove the bolts (1a) and the intake manifold (1b).
  19. Remove the gasket.

    NOTE:

    The high pressure pipe must always be replaced each time it is removed.

  21. Loosen the high pressure fuel pipe connector (1).

  22. Loosen the connector (1a) and remove the high pressure fuel pipe (1b).

  23. Disconnect the fuel injector wire harness connectors (1).
  24. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector (2).

  25. Remove the bolts (1a) and release the pressure pump wiring retaining bracket (1b).

    NOTE:

    Handle the pressure pump with care because accidental knocks could compromise its operation.

  26. Remove the bolts (1a) and the pressure pump complete with wiring retaining bracket (1b).

  29. Loosen the band (1) and disconnect the vacuum air pipe.
  30. Remove the bolts (2) securing the vacuum air pipe to the cylinder head.

  32. Remove the bolts (1) securing the vacuum air pipes to the cylinder head covers.

  33. Disconnect the quick connector (1) of the vacuum air pump side of the vacuum pipe.
  34. Remove the bolts (2a) and the solenoid valve (2b) complete with pipes.

  42. Remove the cylinder head cover gaskets (1 - 2).
  43. Remove the O-rings from the engine oil ducts.
  44. Remove the residues of sealant from the cylinder head and tappet cover, using a suitable scraper, taking care not to damage the surfaces.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install a NEW  cylinder head gasket, inserting it in the groove provided in the cylinder head.
  2. Install the NEW  engine oil duct O-rings, inserting them in the grooves provided in the cylinder head.
  3. Apply a bead of Dow Corning® sealant, 2 +/- 0.5 mm in the points shown in illustration (1).

  4. Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the bolts finger tight.
  5. Using the tightening sequence shown in illustration, tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. Using a NEW  O-ring, install the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoids (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. Using a NEW  O-ring, install the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensors (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Using a NEW  gasket, install the vacuum pump and securely tighten the bolts.
  9. Using a NEW  O-ring, install the engine oil vapor recovery pipe and securely tighten the bolts.
  10. Install the wastegate control solenoid valve complete with pipes and securely tighten the bolts.
  11. Connect the rapid connector of the vacuum air pump side of the vacuum pipe.
  12. Connect the vacuum air hoses to their respective rigid pipes and tighten the bands.

  13. Install the ignitions coils (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Place the roller tappet back in its housing.

  15. Using a NEW  O-ring, install the pressure pump (1a) complete with a wiring retaining bracket and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  16. Install the pressure pump wiring retaining bracket bolts and securely tighten.
  17. Connect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector.
  18. Connect the fuel injector wire harness connectors.

  19. Install the NEW  high pressure fuel tube (1a) to the fuel rail and tighten the connector (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  20. Tighten the high pressure fuel tube connector (1) at the pressure pump and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  21. Install the low pressure fuel tube and tighten the connector (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  22. Securely tighten the bolts (1) of the high pressure fuel pipe intermediate bracket.

  23. Using a NEW  gasket, install the intake manifold and tighten the bolts finger tight.
  24. Using the tightening sequence shown in illustration, tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  25. Using a NEW  O-ring, install the engine oil vapor diverter valve and securely tighten the bolts.
  26. Connect the throttle body wire harness connector and engage the wiring with the retaining clips.
  27. Connect the wastegate solenoid valve wire harness connector.
  28. Connect the cylinder ignition coil No. 6 wire harness connector.
  29. Tighten the bolts securing the engine wiring.
  30. Connect the fuel pump pressure regulator wire harness connector.
  31. Connect the air temperature and pressure sensor wire harness connector.
  32. Connect the intake CMP sensor wire harness connectors.
  33. Connect the exhaust CMP sensor wire harness connectors.
  34. Connect the wire harness connectors for cylinder No. 4 - 5 ignition coils.
  35. Connect the VVT solenoid wire harness connector.
  36. Connect the knock sensor wire harness connector and engage the respective wiring with the retaining clip.
  37. Tighten the bolt securing the wiring retaining collar and securely tighten.
  38. Connect the fuel pressure sensor wire harness connector.
  39. Install the bolt securing the ground wire and securely tighten bolt.
  40. Install the left timing chain and sprocket. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
