The muffler/tail pipe assembly contains a by-pass throttle valve system that under normal conditions is closed, allowing the exhaust gas to be dampened within the muffler. Under load and performance conditions the valves open and allow the exhaust gas directly out the tail pipe, thus reducing the dampening effect of the muffler.
