Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.

    1. Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs and record on the repair order.
    4. With the scan tool, read and record Freeze Frame information.
    5. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
      WARNING:

      To avoid possible serious or fatal injury, check brake capability is available before road testing.

    6. Test drive the vehicle straight with speeds above 15 km/h (9 mph).
    7. Stop the vehicle.
    8. Using the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK TRANSMISSION 
    1. Check whether the vehicle has an manual transmission installed.

      Presence of automatic transmission

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK CONNECTIONS ON REVERSING SWITCH AND ABS CONTROL UNIT 
    1. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connections on the reversing switch, on powertrain control module or on ABS control unit.

      Are there any loose or damaged connections?

      Yes 

      • Repair the wiring connections as necessary.

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. WIRING CHECK BETWEEN REVERSING SWITCH AND ENGINE CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check the wiring for an open circuit or high resistance between reversing switch and powertrain control module and on CAN line between powertrain control module and ABS control unit.

      Is there a high resistance or open condition in the wiring?

      Yes 

      • Repair the open circuit or high resistance in the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. WIRING CHECK BETWEEN REVERSING SWITCH AND ENGINE CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check wiring for a short circuit between reversing switch and powertrain control module and on CAN line between powertrain control module and ABS control unit.

      Is there a short circuit in the wiring?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short circuit in the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK REVERSING SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. Check that the reversing switch is working properly.

      Is the reversing switch operating properly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • Replace the reverse switch.
  7. CHECK CONNECTION BETWEEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT AND ABS CONTROL UNIT 
    1. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connections on the automatic transmission control unit or the ABS control unit.

      Are there any loose or damaged connections?

      Yes 

      • Repair the wiring connections as necessary.

      No 

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK WIRING BETWEEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT AND POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check the wiring for an open circuit or high resistance of the CAN-C1 line between the automatic transmission control unit and the ABS control unit.

      Is there a high resistance or open condition in the wiring?

      Yes 

      • Repair the open circuit or high resistance in the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  9
  9. CHECK WIRING BETWEEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT AND POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check the wiring for a short circuit in the CAN-C1 line between the automatic transmission control unit and the ABS control unit.

      Is there a short circuit in the wiring?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short circuit in the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. CHECK AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT OPERATION 
    1. Check that the automatic transmission control unit is working properly.

      Is the automatic transmission control unit operating properly?

      Yes 

      • End of diagnosis.

      No 

      • Replace the automatic transmission control unit.
