Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs and record on the vehicle repair order.
    4. With the scan tool, erase ABS DTCs.
    5. Cycle the ignition from off to on.
    6. Pull the EPB Switch up to apply the Electric Park Brakes.
    7. Press the brake pedal firmly and hold.
    8. Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Park Brakes.
    9. Release the brake pedal.
    10. Cycle the ignition from off to on.
    11. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test complete.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .
  2. CHECK THE REAR ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ACTUATORS CONNECTOR/TERMINAL FOR DAMAGE 
    NOTE:

    Check all terminals for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the Rear Electric Parking Brake Actuator harness and connectors.
    3. Inspect the Rear Brake Assembly's for incorrect mounting or damage.
    4. Inspect the Rear Brake Assembly's for correct operation.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (B63) LEFT EPB ACTUATOR A CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance of the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control circuit between the ABS Module harness connector and the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE (B65) LEFT EPB ACTUATOR B CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control circuit between the ABS Module harness connector and the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (B63) LEFT EPB ACTUATOR A CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (B65) LEFT EPB ACTUATOR B CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR B SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check for continuity between ground and the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK THE (B63) LEFT EPB ACTUATOR A CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Measure the voltage on the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B63) Left EPB Actuator A Control circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK THE (B65) LEFT EPB ACTUATOR B CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage on the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B65) Left EPB Actuator B Control circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  9
  9. CHECK THE (B64) RIGHT EPB ACTUATOR A CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Electric Parking Brake Right Rear harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the (B64) Right EPB Actuator A Control circuit between the ABS Module harness connector and the Electric Parking Brake Right Rear harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  10

      No 

      • Repair the (B64) Right EPB Actuator A Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .
  10. CHECK THE (B66) RIGHT EPB ACTUATOR B CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control circuit between the ABS Module harness connector and the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  11

      No 

      • Repair the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .
  11. CHECK THE (B64) RIGHT EPB ACTUATOR A CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (B64) Right EPB Actuator A Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (B64) Right EPB Actuator A Control circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B64) Right EPB Actuator A Control for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  12
  12. CHECK THE (B66) RIGHT EPB ACTUATOR B CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR B SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  13
  13. CHECK THE (B65) RIGHT EPB ACTUATOR A CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Measure the voltage on the (B65) Right EPB Actuator A Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B65) Right EPB Actuator A Control circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  14
  14. CHECK THE (B66) RIGHT EPB ACTUATOR B CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage on the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control circuit at the Electric Parking Brake Left Rear harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B66) Right EPB Actuator B Control circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EPB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPB VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  15
  15. PERFORM THE APPLY/RELEASE LEFT REAR BRAKE ROUTINE 
    1. With the scan tool, under "Miscellaneous Functions".
    2. With the scan tool, go to the "Electric Park Brake Management" tab and perform the "Apply/Release Left Rear Brake" routine.

      Is the Left Rear Parking Brake Actuator operating correctly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  16

      No 

  16. PERFORM THE APPLY/RELEASE RIGHT REAR BRAKE ROUTINE 
    1. With the scan tool, under "Miscellaneous Functions".
    2. With the scan tool, go to the "Electric Park Brake Management" tab and perform the "Apply/Release Right Rear Brake" routine.

      Is the Right Rear Parking Brake Actuator operating correctly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  17

      No 

  17. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Connect the ABS Module harness connector. Be certain that the harness connector is fully seated and the connector lock is fully engaged.
    6. Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Connect the related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
      WARNING:

      To avoid possible serious or fatal injury, check brake capability is available before road testing.

    9. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read ABS Module DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
