Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. With the scan tool, read the RADIO/ETM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To Step  2.

      No 

  2. CHECK THE RADIO/ETM FOR SOFTWARE/FLASH UPDATE 
    1. Using the scan tool, check the RADIO/ETM for an available software/flash update.

      Is there an available sofware/flash update for the Radio?

      Yes 

      • Using the scan tool perform the flash update to the Radio/ETM by following all on screen prompts.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Go To Step  4.
  3. CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN 
    1. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. With the scan tool, read the RADIO/ETM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To Step  4.

      No 

      • Test Complete.
  4. CHECK THE (X458) UCI USB RADIO DATA (-) CIRCUIT FOR DAMAGE 
    1. From the 9977-6-11 Radio Antenna Diagnostic Kit (special tool #9977-6-11, Kit, USB Mini-B - 4 and 5 Wire) connect the appropriate length adapter cable between the Radio and USB Port.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To Step  5.

      No 

      • Replace the (X458) UCI USB Radio Data (-) circuit as needed.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE MEDIA PORT 
    NOTE:

    This test is designed to validate the ability of the Audio/Media system to play audio from a customer's device that has been connected to the USB port on the radio or the external USB port (Universal Customer Interface (UCI) / Multi- Media port). By connecting a known good compatible device to the USB ports it will also determine if the USB port can provide power to a connected device.

    It is important to determine the system features supported by the vehicle's multi-media systems, customer's personal device and their compatibility with another.

    For device compatibility, refer to http://www.driveuconnect.com

    Prior to performing any testing of the multi-media systems, the compatibility between the customer's personal device and the vehicle's multi-media systems must be confirmed.

    1. Confirm the USB port is not a Charge only  port.
    2. Using a known good USB Cable, connect the USB Cable to the vehicle's USB port.
    3. Connect the USB Cable to the known good compatible device.
    4. Select and audio file from the known good compatible device to be heard with the volume all the way up.
    5. Using the vehicle controls, place the audio system into USB Mode. (Audio system may automatically enter into USB Mode.)

      Does the Radio play audio from the known good compatible device?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

  6. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all RADIO/ETM Module harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all RADIO/ETM Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read RADIO/ETM Module DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
