Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, read the RADIO/ETM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To Step  2.

      No 

  2. DETERMINE THE AUDIO SYSTEM BEING SERVICED 
    1. Using the vehicle sales codes, determine the audio system being serviced.

      What is the sales code for the audio system in this vehicle?

      RCH - 8 SPEAKERS 

      • Go To Step  3.

      RC4 - PREMIUM AUDIO SYSTEM / RCA - HARMON KARDON HIGH PERFORMANCE AUDIO 

      • Go to Step  7.
  3. CHECK LEFT FRONT TWEETER AND DOOR SPEAKER ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connections on the Left Front Tweeter Speaker, Left Front Door Speaker and on the Radio.

      Is there a loose pin or poor connection present?

      Yes 

      • Repair or replace the wiring connectors as necessary.

      No 

      • Go to Step  4.
  4. CHECK THE (X209) AND (X299) LEFT FRONT I/P SPEAKER CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (X209) Left Front I/P Speaker (+) circuits between the Speaker connector and the Radio harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (X299) Left Front I/P Speaker (-) circuits between the Speaker connector and the Radio harness connector.

      Is the resistance above 3.0 ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the Left Front I/P Speaker circuit(s) for an open or high resistance.

      No 

      • Go to Step  5.
  5. CHECK THE LEFT FRONT DOOR SPEAKER 
    1. Replace the Left Front Door Speaker in accordance with Service Information. Refer to SPEAKER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. With the scan tool, erase the RADIO/ETM DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition off then on.
    4. With the scan tool, read the RADIO/ETM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go to Step  6.

      No 

      • Test Complete.
  6. CHECK THE LEFT FRONT TWEETER SPEAKER 
    1. Replace the Left Front Tweeter Speaker in accordance with Service Information. Refer to SPEAKER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. With the scan tool, erase the RADIO/ETM DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition off then on.
    4. With the scan tool, read the RADIO/ETM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go to Step  10.

      No 

      • Test Complete.
  7. CHECK AMPLIFIER ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connections on the Amplifier and on the Radio.

      Is there a loose pin or poor connection present?

      Yes 

      • Repair or replace the wiring connectors as necessary.

      No 

      • Go to Step  8.
  8. CHECK THE (X209) AND (X299) LEFT FRONT SPEAKER CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (X209) Left Front Speaker (+) circuits between the Speaker connector and the Radio harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (X299) Left Front Speaker (-) circuits between the Speaker connector and the Radio harness connector.

      Is the resistance above 3.0 ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the Left Front I/P Speaker circuit(s) for an open or high resistance.

      No 

      • Go to Step  9.
  9. CHECK THE AMPLIFIER 
    1. Replace the Amplifier in accordance with Service Information. Refer to AMPLIFIER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. With the scan tool, erase the RADIO/ETM DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition off then on.
    4. With the scan tool, read the RADIO/ETM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go to Step  10.

      No 

      • Test Complete.
  10. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all RADIO/ETM Module harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all RADIO/ETM Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read RADIO/ETM Module DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
