2. Install the cam holder assembly, and hold the cam holder assembly with the handle.
3. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to compress the timing belt auto-tensioner.
4. Insert a pin (m). (Figure 4)

Standard Value m 3.0 mm (7/64 in) 5. Remove the timing belt auto-tensioner.

NOTICE:
If there is the oil on the sprocket surface of the VTC actuator, degrease it.
1. Refer to figure 6, 7, and 8, align the marks.

2. Refer to figure 9, and install the timing belt.

4. Remove the pin from the timing belt auto-tensioner.

5. Turn the crankshaft 3.8 turns clockwise.
NOTE: Check that the marks (ag) on the VTC Actuators and the pointers (ah) on the cylinder head covers are aligned. (Figure 10)

6. Loosen the nut (ai) while holding the timing belt auto-tensioner with a hex wrench. (Figure 11)

7. Turn the retainer counterclockwise, and align the indicators (ak). (Figure 12)
NOTE: If the Indicator range is exceeded, turn the retainer clockwise until the right end of the arm dent shape (am) overlaps the right end of the base hook (an), then turn the retainer counterclockwise, and align the indicators (ak). (Figure 12 and 13)
8. With the indicators aligned, hold the hex wrench and tighten the nut.
Tightening Procedure (Figure 14)
Step Operation Specification 1 Temporarily Tighten 10 N.m (7.4 lbf.ft) 2 Angle Tighten ao 60 deg. 9. Make sure the hex hole in the proper range (ap). (Figure 12)
10. When the adjustment is complete, make mark (aq) to the indicator. (Figure 12)
After Installation
- Ignition Timing Inspection - Refer to: Ignition Timing Inspection (3.0L Engine) or Ignition Timing Inspection (3.5L Engine)
Maintenance Minder Reset (With Maintenance Minder System)
- If the Maintenance Minder requires the timing belt to be replaced, reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see "Resetting the Maintenance Minder").

- Hold the camshaft with an open-end wrench, then loosen the VTC actuator mounting bolt. (Figure 1)

NOTICE:
Do not apply engine oil to the camshaft oil seal.
1. Clean and dry the oil seal housing.
2. Hold the camshaft with an open-end wrench.

3. Install the washer (e) and the bolt (f). (Figure 3)

4. Insert the camshaft oil seal (g). (Figure 4)
5. Install the seal D/shaft (h) and the nut (i). (Figure 4)

6. Turn the nut (k) clockwise, and press fit the camshaft oil seal. (Figure 5)
NOTICE:
Press fit until the seal D/shaft is seated.
