SRS - Front Passenger's Airbag Cutoff Indicator Stays "On" Or Comes "On" Suddenly
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information .
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software , and retest.
Under the following conditions, the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stays on or comes on suddenly:
- When no one is sitting on the front passenger's seat, but there is an object on the seat more than 5 kg (11 lbs).
- The front seat belt is buckled, but no one is sitting on the front passenger's seat.
- Someone who is less than about 30 kg (66 lbs) is sitting on the front passenger's seat.
- System check 1:
Check for these items, then recheck the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator.
- The front passenger's seat is installed correctly.
- Nothing is/was on the front passenger's seat.
- Nothing is/was under the front passenger's seat.
- Nothing is/was in the front passenger's seat-back pocket.
- Whoever was sitting on the front passenger's seat was sitting in the proper sitting position.
- The seat weight sensors may not measure the correct weight of the front passenger. If the front passenger's weight is more than 30 kg (66 lbs) but is supporting some of their body weight with their feet on the floor, or with their hands and arms on an arm rest, the actual weight of the passenger is not measured.
Does the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
The vehicle is OK at this time.
- System check 2
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) .
-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select AFTER REPLACING FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT COMPONENT(S), and follow the prompts.
After Replacing Passenger's Seat Component(s)
Does the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Intermittent failure, the vehicle is OK at this time.
- System check 3
-1. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select AFTER A VEHICLE COLLISION, and follow the prompts.
After a vehicle Collision
Does the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
The vehicle is OK at this time.
- System check 4
-1. Replace the SRS unit .
-2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and see if the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator comes on.
Does the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?
YES
Replace the ODS unit , and retest. If the problem is still present, replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors .
NO
The vehicle is OK at this time.
