Cable Reel: Removal
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
Before doing this procedure, set the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
- Battery Terminal - Disconnect
1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure , then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work. - Driver's Airbag - Remove
1. Remove the driver's airbag . - Cable Reel Connector C - Disconnect
1. Disconnect cable reel connector C on the cable reel subharness from the cable reel (A). 2. A/T: Remove the harness from the holder (B).
3. A/T: Disconnect the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) connector (D), then slide and remove the connector (E) from the bracket (F) to install the steering wheel puller.
4. Loosen the steering wheel bolt (G) three turns.
- Steering Wheel - Remove
1. Install a commercially available steering wheel puller on the steering wheel. Free the steering wheel from the steering column shaft . 2. Remove the steering wheel puller, then remove the steering wheel.
NOTE: Remove the old sealant from the threads in the steering column shaft. - Column Cover - Remove
1. Remove the upper and lower column covers . - Cable Reel Connectors A, B, and Steering Angle Sensor Connector - Disconnect
1. Disconnect cable reel connectors A and B on the dashboard wire harness, and the steering angle sensor connector (C). - Cable Reel/Steering Angle Sensor - Remove
1. Remove the cable reel/steering angle sensor (A). - Cable Reel - Remove
1. Remove the cable reel (A) from the steering angle sensor (B).
