DTC 83-43 : No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (rear outer side)

NOTE:

Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information .
Make sure the harness under the front passenger's seat is not pinched or interfering with other parts.

Problem verification

-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

-2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

-3. Check for DTCs with the HDS .

DTC Description	DTC
83-43 No signal from the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side)

Is DTC 83-43 indicated?

YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

Open wire check (SWSP4 line)

-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.

-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

-4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	ON mode
Test condition	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSP4
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector No. 1 (RED) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there about 5 V?

YES

The SWSP4 wire is OK. Go to step 3.

Open in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

Shorted wire check (SWSS4 line)

-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

-2. Disconnect front passenger's weight sensor unit connector B (6P).

-3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	OFF mode
Test condition	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector B (6P): disconnected
	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSS4
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector B (6P) No. 5 (GRN)
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

YES

The SWSS4 wire is not shorted. Go to step 4.

Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

Shorted wire check (SWSS4 line to SWSG4 line)

-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector B (6P): disconnected
	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSS4, SWSG4
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector No. 2 (GRN) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)
Test point 2	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector No. 3 (WHT) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)

Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

YES

The SWSS4 and SWSG4 wires are not shorted. Go to step 5.

Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

Open wire check (SWSS4 lines)

-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector B (6P): disconnected
	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSS4
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector B (6P) No. 5 (GRN)
Test point 2	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector No. 2 (GRN) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)

Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

YES

Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.

Open in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
