DTC P0034 (1.5 L Engine)

DTC P0034  : Turbocharger Bypass Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Voltage

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .

P0034 Turbocharger Bypass Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Voltage    

DTC (PGM-FI)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Select the TC BYPASS CONTROL SOL.V. TEST in the Function Test with the HDS.

    Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P0034 Turbocharger Bypass Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Voltage    

    Is DTC P0034 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot .

  2. Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve internal circuit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector

    -3. At the solenoid valve side, measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector (male terminals) No. 1 (solenoid valve side):
    Test point 2 Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector (male terminals) No. 2 (solenoid valve side):

    Is there about 30-34 Ω at room temperature?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve .

  3. Fuse check

    -1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. A42

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Repair a short in the IG1 ACG/IG1 (ACG)/IG1 (ABV) wire between the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve and the No. A42 fuse. Also replace the No. A42 fuse.

  4. Open wire check (IG1 ACG/IG1 (ACG)/IG1 (ABV) line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IG1 ACG/IG1 (ACG)/IG1 (ABV) wire between the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve and the No. A42 fuse .

  5. Short wire check (ABV line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

    -3. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector E (80P)

    -4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector: disconnected
      PCM connector E (80P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve 2P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the ABV wire between the PCM (E79) and the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve.

    NO 

    The ABV wire is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM .
