Parking and Back-Up Sensor System Description (2022, 2023)

Overview

The parking and back-up sensor system measures distances to objects by transmitting ultrasonic waves and receiving the echo from sound waves bouncing off nearby objects. It informs drivers of nearby objects with audible warning signals as well as visual signs through the multi-information display (MID) in the gauge control module.

Basic Control/Function

The sensors send out ultrasonic waves, receive waves reflected by an obstacle, determine the distance, and use the buzzer and multi-information display (MID) to tell the driver that an obstacle is near.

Sounding Pattern

The alarm sounding pattern and display of the obstacle detection location are performed by the obstacle detection indication requests and alarm sounding requests from the parking and back up sensor control unit. As shown in the following table, the time of sounding the buzzer is changed depending on the detection distance. A warning message is generated in case of a failure of the parking sensor system.

Low Speed Braking Control System

The low speed braking control system has functions: Assistive braking function.

Assistive Braking Function

The parking sensor control unit recognizes the distance and position of the obstacle based on the parking sensor signal and determines whether the obstacle is in the vehicle traveling direction. When it is determined that the vehicle may collide with an obstacle, a brake control request signal is transmitted by F-CAN to reduce the collision. Also, depending on road conditions, weather conditions, vehicle conditions, etc., it may not work or may not fully perform.

When all of the following conditions are met, the parking sensor control unit sends a brake control request signal:
