SRS DTC 83-26
DTC 83-26 : No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (rear outer side)
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information .
- These SWS DTCs are cleared when you press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

DTC (SRS)
- Problem verification
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .
-2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
-3. Check for DTCs with the HDS .
DTC Description DTC 83-26 No signal from the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) Is DTC 83-26 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- SWS DTC check
-1. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .
DTC Description DTC 26-11 Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit 26-12 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit 26-13 Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit 26-14 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit Is an SWS DTC also indicated?
SWS DTC 26-11
Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
SWS DTC 26-12
Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit. Go to step 3.
SWS DTC 26-13
Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit. Go to step 6.
SWS DTC 26-14
Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit. Go to step 8.
- Front passenger's weight sensor check
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.
-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .
-5. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .
DTC Description DTC 26-12 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit Is SWS DTC 26-12 indicated?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (WS4P line)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-3. Release the bottom hooks, and unzip the seat-back cover .
-4. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit .
-5. Remove the cover (A) and the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.
-6. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected Test circuit WS4P Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 2 (RED) Test point 2 Body ground Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The WS4P wire is not shorted. Go to step 5.
NO
Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (WS4P line to WS4G line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected Test circuit WS4P, WS4G Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 2 (RED) Test point 2 ODS unit 18P connector No. 14 (WHT) Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The WS4P and WS4G wires are OK. Replace the ODS unit , then clear the DTC.
NO
Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Front passenger's weight sensor check
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Swap the connections between the rear outer side front passenger's weight sensor and the front outer side sensor.
-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .
-5. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .
DTC Description DTC 26-13 Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit Is SWS DTC 26-13 indicated?
YES
Go to step 7.
NO
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (WS4O line to power)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness, and the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (B) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.
-4. Release the bottom hooks, and unzip the seat-back cover .
-5. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit .
-6. Remove the cover (A) and the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.
-7. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-8. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition ON mode Front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected Test circuit WS4O Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 8 (GRN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there 0.2 V or less?
YES
The WS4O wire is OK. Replace the ODS unit , then clear the DTC.
NO
Short to power in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Front passenger's weight sensor check
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.
-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .
-5. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .
DTC Description DTC 26-14 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit Is SWS DTC 26-14 indicated?
YES
Go to step 9.
NO
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (WS4O line)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-3. Release the bottom hooks, and unzip the seat-back cover .
-4. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit .
-5. Remove the cover (A) and the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.
-6. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected Test circuit WS4O Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 8 (GRN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The WS4O wire is not shorted. Go to step 10.
NO
Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (WS4O line to WS4G line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected Test circuit WS4O, WS4G Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 8 (GRN) Test point 2 ODS unit 18P connector No. 14 (WHT) Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The WS4O and WS4G wires are OK. Replace the ODS unit , then clear the DTC.
NO
Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
