SRS DTC 34-8x

DTC 34-8x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F) : Short to Power in the Right Side Curtain Airbag Inflator

Special Tools Required

SRS Inflator Simulator 07SAZ-TB4011A

SRS Simulator Lead L 070AZ-SNAA300

NOTE:

Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures , General Troubleshooting Information , and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection .
Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software , and retest.

Problem verification

-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

-2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

-3. Check for DTCs with the HDS .

Is DTC 34-8x indicated?

YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

Right side curtain airbag inflator check

-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

-2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

-3. Remove the right side C-pillar trim .

-4. Disconnect the right side curtain airbag inflator 2P connector (A) on the floor wire harness.

-5. Connect the terminals of SRS simulator lead L to the SRS inflator simulator (2 Ω connectors), then connect SRS simulator lead L to the right side curtain airbag inflator 2P connector on the floor wire harness.

-6. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

-7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

-8. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

-9. Check for DTCs with the HDS .

Is DTC 34-8x indicated?

YES

Go to step 3.

Short to power in the right side curtain airbag inflator; replace the right side curtain airbag , then clear the DTC.

Shorted wire check (RCA+, RCA- lines to power)

-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

-2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

-3. Disconnect the following connector.

SRS unit connector B (39P)

-4. Disconnect the SRS inflator simulator from SRS simulator lead L. Do not disconnect SRS simulator lead L from the right side curtain airbag inflator 2P connector on the floor wire harness.

-5. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

-6. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

-7. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	ON mode
	Right side curtain airbag inflator 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected
	SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected
	Right side curtain airbag inflator 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): connected to SRS simulator lead L
Test circuit	RCA+, RCA-
Test point 1	SRS simulator lead L black terminal
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there 0.2 V or less?

YES

The RCA+ and RCA- wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit . If the DTC does not clear, replace the floor wire harness.

Short to power in the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
