EPS Indicator Does Not Go Off, And No DTCs Are Stored (With Auto Idle Stop System and ACC) (2015-17)

  1. Problem verification

    - 1. Start the engine.

    - 2. Check the EPS indicator.

    Does the EPS indicator come on, then go off?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. DTC check

    - 1. Test-drive the vehicle at 6 mph (10 km/h) or more.

    - 2. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC Freeze Frame
         

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. DTC check (PGM-FI system)

    - 1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame
    P0A94 VOLTAGE STABILIZER MALFUNCTION      

    Is DTC P0A94 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. DTC check (CAN gateway system)

    - 1. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off  
    U0047-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch B Bus Off  
    U3000-49 CAN Gateway Internal Failure  

    Is DTC U0029-00, U0047-00, and/or U3000-49 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTCs troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  5. Gauge control module operation check

    - 1. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function.

    Does the EPS indicator blink?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Replace the gauge control module .

  6. Body electrical system DTC check

    - 1. Check for DTCs in the gauge control module with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Is DTC indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  7. Fuse check 1

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. A1-1 (70 A)
    Location Under-hood fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 8.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground on the No. A1-1 (70 A) fuse circuit.

  8. Fuse check 2

    - 1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B13 (15 A)
    Location Under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 9.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground on the No. B13 (15 A) fuse circuit.

  9. Fuse check 3

    - 1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. GA (7. 5 A)
    Location Under-dash sub fuse/relay box B

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 10.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. GA (7. 5A) fuse circuit.

  10. DC-DC converter IG1 relay check

    - 1. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay from the under-dash sub fuse/relay box B, and test it.

    Is the relay OK?

    YES 

    The relay is OK. Reinstall the relay, then go to step 11.

    NO 

    Replace the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  11. Open wire check (IG1 VSA (DC) line) 1

    - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 9 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17),  or EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA (DC) wire is OK. Go to step  16.

    NO 

    Go to step 12.

  12. Open wire check (IG1 VSA (DC) line) 2

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay from the under-dash sub fuse/relay box B.

    - 3. Check for contimuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: removed
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 9 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17),  or EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) 
    Test point 2 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket No. 1

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA (DC) wire is OK. Go to step 13.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  13. Open wire check (+B DC1 OUT2 line)

    - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

    DC-DC converter connector B (5P)

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: removed
      DC-DC converter connector A (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket No. 2
    Test point 2 DC-DC converter connector B (5P) No. 5

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The +B DC1 OUT2 wire is OK. Go to step 14.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter IG1 relay and the DC-DC coverter.

  14. Open wire check (IG1 ACG line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: removed
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket No. 3
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 ACG wire is OK. Go to step 15.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  15. Open wire check (GND line) 1

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: removed
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket No. 4
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Replace the DC-DC converter .

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the DC-DC converter IG1 relay and body ground (G306).

  16. Open wire check (+B EPS line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 2 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17),  or EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B EPS wire is OK. Go to step 17.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the No. A1-1 (70A) fuse.

  17. Open wire check (GND line) 2

    - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 1 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17),  or EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Go to step 18.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and body ground (G201).

  18. F-CAN circuit communication check

    - 1. Reconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    EPS control unit is Not Available 

    Go to step 19.

    Gauge control module is Not Available 

    Go to step 20.

    EPS control unit and gauge control module are Detected 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.

  19. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 1

    - 1. Disconnect the following connectors.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 10 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17),  or EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 11 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17),  or EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Go to step 21.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the CAN gateway.

  20. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 2

    - 1. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Gauge control module 32P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 27 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without SH-AWD) (2015-17), or Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With SH-AWD) (2015-17)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 28 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without SH-AWD) (2015-17), or Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With SH-AWD) (2015-17)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Check for loose terminals in the gauge control module 32P connector and CAN gateway 24P connector. If they are OK, substitute a known-good gauge control module , then retest. If the indicators come on then go off after substitution, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  21. EPS control unit check (update)

    - 1. Reconnect the following connectors.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 2. Update the EPS control unit if it does not have the latest software.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 4. Start the engine.

    - 5. Check the EPS indicator.

    Does the EPS indicator come on, then go off?

    YES 

    Troubleshooting is complete.

    NO 

    Replace the EPS control unit .
