ABS Indicator, Brake System Indicator (Red), VSA Indicator, And Brake System Indicator (Amber) Do Not Go Off (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2018-19)

NOTE:

Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the VSA modulator-control unit. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting - Refer to: DLC Circuit Troubleshooting (L4) (2018-19), or DLC Circuit Troubleshooting (V6, Without SH-AWD) (2018-19), or DLC Circuit Troubleshooting (V6, With SH-AWD) (2018-19) .

  1. DTC check (VSA modulator-control unit)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Is DTC indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. DTC check (PGM-FI system)

    - 1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC
    P0A94 VOLTAGE STABILIZER MALFUNCTION    

    Is DTC P0A94 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. DTC check (CAN gateway system)

    - 1. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Is DTC indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Gauge control module operation check

    - 1. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function.

    Is the gauge control module OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Replace the gauge control module .

  5. Fuse check 1

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. GA (7.5 A)
    Location Under-dash sub fuse/relay box B

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 6.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. GA (7.5 A) fuse circuit.

  6. Fuse check 2

    - 1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B13 (15 A)
    Location Under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 7.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. B13 (15 A) fuse circuit.

  7. Fuse check 3

    - 1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. A1-4 (20 A)
    Location Under-hood fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 8.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. A1-4 (20 A) fuse circuit.

  8. DC-DC converter IG1 relay check

    - 1. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay, and test it.

    Is the relay OK?

    YES 

    The relay is OK. Reinstall the relay, then go to step 9.

    NO 

    Replace the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  9. Open wire check (IG1 VSA (DC) line)

    - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 36 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA (DC) wire is OK. Go to step  14.

    NO 

    Go to step 10.

  10. Open wire check (IG1 VSA (DC) line, IG1 RELAY1 line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: removed
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 36 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) 
    Test point 2 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA (DC) wire and IG1 RELAY1 wire are OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  11. Open wire check (+B DC1 OUT2 line)

    - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

    DC-DC converter connector B (5P)

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: disconnected
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket (female terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 DC-DC converter connector B (5P) (female terminals) No. 5:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The +B DC1 OUT2 wire is OK. Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  12. Open wire check (IG1 ACG line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay: disconnected
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 4P socket (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 ACG wire is OK. Go to step 13.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay.

  13. Open wire check (DC RLY GND line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 4:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Replace the DC-DC converter .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter IG1 relay and body ground (G306).

  14. Open wire check (+B ABS/VSA FSR line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 4 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B ABS/VSA FSR wire is OK. Go to step 15.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the No. A1-4 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  15. Open wire check (GND line)

    - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 3 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Go to step 16.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G206).

  16. F-CAN circuit communication check

    - 1. Reconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    Gauge control module (Bus A) is Not Available 

    Go to step 17.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus A) is Not Available 

    Go to step 18.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus B) is Not Available 

    Go to step  19.

    VSA modulator-control unit and gauge control module are Available 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting .

  17. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 1

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Gauge control module 32P connector
    CAN gateway 16P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 27 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test circuit 2  
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 28 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good gauge control module , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good gauge control module, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  18. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 2

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    CAN gateway 16P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 38 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test circuit 2  
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 26 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and the F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Removal and Installation (With SH-AWD), or VSA Modulator-Control Unit Removal and Installation (Without SH-AWD) .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.

  19. Open wire check (F-CAN B_H, F-CAN B_L lines)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    CAN gateway 16P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 31 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 6:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN B_H and F-CAN B_L wires are OK. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Removal and Installation (With SH-AWD), or VSA Modulator-Control Unit Removal and Installation (Without SH-AWD) .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.
