VSA System - ABS indicator, brake system indicator (RED), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (AMBER) do not go off (2014 2015 2016 2017)

  1. All DTCs check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Do the All DTCs check with the HDS.

    All DTCs

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Do the DTC troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Fuse check 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. E20 (7.5 A)
    Location Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then the OFF (LOCK). If the fuse blows again, repair the short to ground on the No. E20 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.

  3. Fuse check 2

    -1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B2-3 (30 A)
    Location Main under-hood fuse box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair the short to ground on the No. B2-3 (30 A) fuse circuit.

  4. Gauge control module operation check

    -1. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function .

    Is the gauge control module OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Replace the gauge control module .

  5. Open wire check (IG1 VSA/ABS line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit IG1 VSA/ABS
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 36 (PNK)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA/ABS wire is OK. Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the No. E20 (7.5 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  6. Open wire check (GND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit GND
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 3 (BLK)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G202).

  7. Open wire check (+B ABS/VSA FSR line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit +B ABS/VSA FSR
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 4 (LT BLU)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B ABS/VSA FSR wire is OK. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the No. B2-3 (30 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  8. F-CAN circuit communication check

    -1. Reconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    -2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    Gauge control module (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 9.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus B) is Not Available

    Go to step 10.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus C) is Not Available

    Go to step 11.

    VSA modulator-control unit and gauge control module are Detected

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to Intermittent Failures troubleshooting.

  9. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L, F-CAN A_H lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    CAN gateway 24P connector
    Gauge control module connector A (32P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN A_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15 (PNK)
    Test point 2 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 28 (PNK)
    Test circuit F-CAN A_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14 (BLU)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Check for loose terminals in the CAN gateway 24P connector and gauge control module connector A (32P).

    If they are OK, substitute a known-good gauge control module , then retest.

    If the indicators come on then go off after substitution, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  10. Open wire check (F-CAN B_L, F-CAN B_H lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    CAN gateway 24P connector
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN B_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 10 (GRY)
    Test point 2 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 26 (GRY)
    Test circuit F-CAN B_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 11 (LT BLU)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN B_L and F-CAN B_H wires are OK. Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.

  11. Open wire check (F-CAN C_L, F-CAN C_H lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    CAN gateway 24P connector
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 8 (PNK)
    Test point 2 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 20 (PNK)
    Test circuit F-CAN C_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 9 (PUR)
    Test point 2 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 31 (PUR)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN C_L and F-CAN C_H wires are OK. Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.

  12. VSA modulator-control unit check (update)

    -1. Reconnect the following connectors.

    CAN gateway 24P connector
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    -2. Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not have the latest software .

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then the ON mode.

    -4. Check the ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) for several seconds when you turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    Do the indicators come on then go off?

    YES 

    Troubleshooting is complete.

    NO 

    Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector. If the VSA modulator-control unit was updated and the symptom/indication is still present, replace the VSA modulator-control unit .
