DTC P05A0 (1.5 L Engine)
DTC P05A0: Shutter Grille Assembly Malfunction
General Description
The shutter grille system opens/closes the shutter depending on the driving conditions. The system improves fuel efficiency by reducing the wind drag. The shutter is controlled by the shutter grille which integrates the actuator. The powertrain control module (PCM) sends open/close requests which depends on the driving conditions to the shutter grille via the local interconnect network (LIN) line. If the actuator detects a block abnormality and the abnormality continues even if the initial learning retry is performed the number of predetermined times, the PCM determines an abnormality and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The shutter grille actuator detects a block abnormality and the abnormality continues even if the initial learning retry is performed three times and the abnormal condition continues for at least 2.5 seconds and the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor 1/2 detects the coolant temperatures in the following table.
| [ECT sensor 1] | [ECT sensor 2] | |
|---|---|---|
| Engine coolant temperature | 225 deg. F (107 deg. C) or more | 209 deg. F (98 deg. C) or more |

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Shutter grille stuck
- Fixation of temporary shutter grille by foreign matter or freezing
- Shutter grille internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
