DTC P003A, P0046 (1.5 L Engine)

DTC P003A  : Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Position Exceeded Learning Limit DTC P0046  : Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Range/Performance Problem

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .

P0046 Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Range/Performance Problem    

DTC (PGM-FI)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (CVT in P or N, M/T in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.

    -4. Select the Electric Waste Gate in the Function Test with the HDS.

    Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P0046 Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Range/Performance Problem    

    Is DTC P003A or P0046 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the turbocharger wastegate control actuator and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot .

  2. Turbocharger check

    -1. Check for the foreign materials at the turbocharger wastegate control actuator link part and the damage on the turbocharger cover.

    Is there foreign materials at the turbocharger wastegate control actuator link part or the damage on the turbocharger cover?

    YES 

    Repair the turbocharger wastegate control actuator link or the turbocharger cover, then go to step 1.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Turbocharger wastegate control actuator check

    -1. Select the Electric Waste Gate in the Function Test with the HDS.

    Visually inspect the operation of the turbocharger wastegate control actuator.

    Does the turbocharger wastegate control actuator operate?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the turbocharger .

  4. Turbocharger wastegate control actuator position sensor check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Turbocharger 5P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      Turbocharger 5P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Turbocharger 5P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Turbocharger 5P connector (female terminals) No. 3:

    Is there about 5.0 V?

    YES 

    Replace the turbocharger .

    NO 

    The turbocharger wastegate control actuator position sensor is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM .
