DTC B12D5 : Electric Steering Lock Power Output Circuit Malfunction
NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A .

DTC (Power Control Unit)
NOTE: If any abnormality occurs in the electric steering lock function, the DTC check operation of the HDS will be different from standard procedures. Retrieve the DTC by following on the HDS display.
- Problem verification
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
-2. Perform the engine starting procedure 5 times repeatedly.
-3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode and wait for 3 seconds.
-4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B12D5 Electric steering lock power output circuit malfunction Is DTC B12D5 indicated?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.
- Shorted wire check (ESL PWR line to ground)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Body control module connector C (66P) Electric steering lock 12P connector -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Body control module connector C (66P): disconnected
Electric steering lock 12P connector: disconnectedTest point 1 Electric steering lock 12P connector (female terminals) No. 5: Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO
The ESL PWR wire is not shored to ground. Go to step 3.
- Shorted wire check (ESL PWR line to power)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Body control module connector C (66P): disconnected
Electric steering lock 12P connector: disconnectedTest point 1 Electric steering lock 12P connector (female terminals) No. 5: Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
Repair a short to power in the wire.
NO
The ESL PWR wire is not shorted to power. Go to step 4.
- Body control module internal short check
-1. Connect the following connector.
Body control module connector C (66P) -2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Electric steering lock 12P connector: disconnectedTest point 1 Electric steering lock 12P connector (female terminals) No. 5: Test point 2 Body ground Is there 4.37 V or more?
YES
Replace the body control module .
NO
Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (ESL PWR line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Electric steering lock 12P connector: disconnectedTest point 1 Electric steering lock 12P connector (female terminals) No. 5: Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
The ESL PWR wire is not open. Go to step 6.
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
- Electric steering lock check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good electric steering lock .
-2. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

YES
Replace the body control module .
NO
