DTC B2988 (61)

DTC B2988 or DTC indicator 61  : A problem in the A/C compressor variable capacity control solenoid circuit

B2988 A problem in the A/C compressor variable capacity control solenoid circuit  

DTCs (AC)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    -2. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode and then the ON mode.

    -3. Do the Self-Diagnostic Function with the HDS or the climate control unit .

    -4. Wait for at least 1 minute.

    -5. Check for DTCs.

    B2988 A problem in the A/C compressor variable capacity control solenoid circuit  

    Is DTC B2988 or 61 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure. Check for loose wires or poor connections on the A/C compressor variable capacity control solenoid circuit.

  2. Open wire check (SOL OUT line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Climate control unit connector A (32P)
    A/C compressor clutch 3P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
    A/C compressor clutch 3P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Climate control unit connector A (32P) No. 14
    Test point 2 A/C compressor clutch 3P connector (female terminals) No. 2:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The SOL OUT wire is not open. Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the SOL OUT wire.

  3. Open wire check (SOL IN line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
    A/C compressor clutch 3P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Climate control unit connector A (32P) No. 30
    Test point 2 A/C compressor clutch 3P connector (female terminals) No. 3:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The SOL IN wire is not open. Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the SOL IN wire.

  4. Shorted wire check (SOL OUT line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
    A/C compressor clutch 3P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Climate control unit connector A (32P) No. 14
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the SOL OUT wire.

    NO 

    The SOL OUT wire is OK. Go to step 5.

  5. Shorted wire check (SOL IN line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
    A/C compressor clutch 3P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Climate control unit connector A (32P) No. 30
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the SOL IN wire.

    NO 

    The SOL IN wire is OK. Go to step 6.

  6. A/C compressor variable capacity control solenoid check

    -1. Test the A/C compressor variable capacity control solenoid .

    Is the variable capacity control solenoid OK?

    YES 

    Replace the climate control unit .

    NO 

    Replace the A/C compressor .
