Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - Auxiliary input sound is low or cannot be heard(With Navigation) (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022)

Auxiliary input sound is low or cannot be heard 

NOTE: 

• Check the vehicle battery condition first .
• Use auxiliary stereo cables with 3.5 mm ends only.
• Make sure the volume of the auxiliary devise is turned up to mid level or higher.
• Auxiliary accessories may be played on the audio-navigation unit using the auxiliary input.
• Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

1. Problem verification 1

   -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

   -2. Turn on the audio system, and connect an auxiliary accessory to the auxiliary input jack.

   Does the display change to the AUX mode?

   YES 

   Go to step 2.

   NO 

   The failure is duplicated, go to step 4.

2. Problem verification 2

   -1. Check the auxiliary audio source sound.

   Is the sound normal?

   YES 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

   NO 

   The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.

3. Determine possible failure area (auxiliary audio accessory, others)

   -1. Substitute a known-good auxiliary audio accessory and/or auxiliary stereo cable, and recheck.

   Is the sound normal?

   YES 

   Original auxiliary audio accessory or auxiliary stereo cable is faulty.

   NO 

   The failure is duplicated, go to step 9.

4. Determine possible failure area (auxiliary jack assembly, others)

   -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

   -2. Disconnect the auxiliary accessory from the auxiliary input jack.

   -3. Disconnect the following connector.

   Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector

   -4. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

   -5. Turn on the audio system.

   -6. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

   Terminal A	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector No. 4 (YEL)
   Terminal B	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector No. 5 (WHT)

   Does the display change to the AUX mode?

   YES 

   Replace the auxiliary jack assembly .

   NO 

   Go to step 5.

5. Determine possible failure area (AUX DET line, others)

   -1. Remove the jumper wire.

   -2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	ON mode
   	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected
   Test circuit	AUX DET
   Test point 1	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector No. 5 (WHT)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 3.0 V?

   YES 

   The AUX DET wire is OK. Go to step 7.

   NO 

   Go to step 6.

6. Open wire check (AUX DET line)

   -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	ON mode
   	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected

   Test circuit	AUX DET
   Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 16 (WHT)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 3.0 V?

   YES 

   Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the auxiliary jack assembly.

   NO 

   Replace the audio-navigation unit .

7. Determine possible failure area (AUX GND line, others)

   -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

   -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	OFF mode
   	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected
   Test circuit	AUX GND
   Test point 1	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector No. 4 (YEL)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Replace the audio-navigation unit .

   NO 

   Go to step 8.

8. Open wire check (AUX GND line)

   -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	OFF mode
   	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 6 (YEL)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the auxiliary jack assembly.

   NO 

   Replace the audio-navigation unit .

9. Shorted wire check (AUX SGND, AUX R CH, AUX L CH lines)

   -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

   -2. Disconnect the auxiliary accessory from the auxiliary input jack.

   -3. Disconnect the following connectors.

   Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P)

   Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector

   -4. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.

   Test condition	OFF mode
   	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P): disconnected
   	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected

   Connector	Test circuit	Terminal
   Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P)	AUX SGND	No. 8 (PNK)
   	AUX R CH	No. 17 (BLU)
   	AUX L CH	No. 18 (GRN)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the auxiliary jack assembly. Replace the affected shielded harness.

   NO 

   The AUX SGND, AUX L CH, and AUX R CH wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 10.

10. Shorted wire check (SH AUX line to another lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	OFF mode
    	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit	SH AUX, AUX L CH
    Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 7 (GRY)
    Test point 2	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 18 (GRN)

    Test circuit	SH AUX, AUX R CH
    Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 7 (GRY)
    Test point 2	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 17 (BLU)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the auxiliary jack assembly. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The SH AUX wire is OK. Go to step 11.

11. Shorted wire check (AUX SGND line to another lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	OFF mode
    	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit	AUX SGND, AUX L CH
    Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 8 (PNK)
    Test point 2	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 18 (GRN)

    Test circuit	AUX SGND, AUX R CH
    Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 8 (PNK)
    Test point 2	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P) No. 17 (BLU)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the auxiliary jack assembly. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The AUX SGND wire is not shorted. Go to step 12.

12. Open wire check (AUX lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	OFF mode
    	Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    	Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector: disconnected

    Test circuit	Test point 1:Audio-navigation unit connector C (20P)	Test point 2:Auxiliary jack assembly 5P connector
    AUX SGND	No. 8 (PNK)	No. 3 (RED)
    AUX R CH	No. 17 (BLU)	No. 1 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The AUX wires are OK. Go to step 13.

    NO 

    There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the auxiliary jack assembly. Repair or replace the affected harness.

13. Auxiliary jack assembly check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good auxiliary jack assembly .

    -2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.

    Does the symptom go away?

    YES 

    Replace the original auxiliary jack assembly.

    NO 

    Replace the audio-navigation unit .
