Paddle Shifter - (Downshift Switch) Circuit (A/T) (2013 2014 2015)
Paddle Shifter - (Downshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repair or service.
- Problem verification
-1. Connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
-2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting .
-4. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS when repeatedly pressing and releasing the paddle shifter - (downshift switch).
Signal Current conditions Values Unit Downshift Switch (ST) Is ON or OFF indicated when you are operating the paddle shifter - (downshift switch)?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
- Determine possible failure area (PCM, others)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
-3. Disconnect the following connector.
PCM connector A (49P) -4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode PCM connector A (49P): disconnected Test circuit PADDLE SW DOWN Test point 1 PCM connector A (49P) No. 19 (GRN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) is released?
YES
Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software , or substitute a known-good PCM , then recheck. If the symptom goes away, replace the original PCM .
NO
Go to step 3.
- Determine possible failure area (paddle shifter - (downshift switch), others)
-1. Connect PCM connector A (49P) .
-2. Remove the steering wheel .
-3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected Test circuit PADDLE DOWN, PADDLE DOWN GND Test point 1 Cable reel connector C (20P) No. 4 (ORN) Test point 2 Cable reel connector C (20P) No. 13 (BLK) Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) is released?
YES
Go to step 5.
NO
Go to step 4.
- Paddle shifter - (downshift switch) operation check
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
Paddle shifter - (downshift switch) 4P connector -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

YES
The GND wire is OK. Go to step 6.
NO
Repair an open in the GND wire between cable reel connector A (20P) and ground (G502), or repair poor ground (G502).
- Shorted wire check (PADDLE SW DOWN line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Cable reel connector A (20P): disconnected Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected Paddle shifter - (downshift switch) 4P connector: disconnected Test circuit PADDLE SW DOWN Test point 1 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 17 (GRN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to ground in the PADDLE SW DOWN wire between cable reel connector A (20P) and the PCM.
NO
The PADDLE SW DOWN wire is not shorted. Go to step 7.
- Determine possible failure area (PADDLE SW DOWN line, cable reel)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition ON mode Cable reel connector A (20P): disconnected Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected Paddle shifter - (downshift switch) 4P connector: disconnected Test circuit GND, PADDLE SW DOWN Test point 1 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 1 (GRY) Test point 2 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 17 (GRN) Is there battery voltage?
