Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - USB input sound is low or cannot be heard(Without Navigation)

USB input sound is low or cannot be heard 

NOTE: 

  1. Determine possible failure area (USB system, others)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -2. Do the Self-Diagnostic Function, and use the speaker check mode .

    Do all speakers make a sound?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO: With premium audio

    Go to No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) (without navigation, with premium audio) troubleshooting .

    NO: Without premium audio

    Go to No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) (without navigation, without premium audio) troubleshooting .

  2. Problem verification

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. On the client's vehicle, connect the client's USB device to the USB port located in the center console.

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Turn on the audio unit, and press the AUX button to select the USB mode.

    -5. Check if the USB device can be operated with the audio unit (Folders or Files UP/DOWN, etc.).

    Can you operate the USB device, and is the sound normal?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the USB device is OK at this time.

    NO: You can select USB device but sound is low or cannot be heard

    The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.

    NO: USB device does not work

    Go to USB device does not function (without navigation) troubleshooting .

  3. Determine possible failure area (USB device, others)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Connect the client's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.

    Does the USB device work properly in the known-good vehicle?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    USB device is faulty or not compatible.

  4. Determine possible failure area (related unit, others)

    -1. Return to the client's vehicle.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM)
    HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Check if the USB audio can be played.

    Is the USB audio sound normal?

    YES: With XM

    Go to step 5.

    YES: Without XM

    Replace the HandsFreeLink control unit .

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  5. HandsFreeLink control unit check

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Reconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector .

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Check if the USB audio can be played.

    Is the USB audio sound normal?

    YES 

    Replace the XM receiver .

    NO 

    Replace the HandsFreeLink control unit .

  6. Shorted wire check (GA AUDIO lines) 1

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Audio unit connector C (14P)
    Audio display unit connector A (32P)

    -3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector C (14P): disconnected
      Audio display unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM): disconnected
      HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector
    Connector  Test circuit  Terminal 
    Audio unit connector C (14P) GA AUDIO L+ No. 1 (RED)
    GA AUDIO R+ No. 2 (WHT)
    GA AUDIO L No. 7 (GRN)
    GA AUDIO R No. 8 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the audio display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The GA AUDIO wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 7.

  7. Shorted wire check (GA AUDIO lines) 2

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector C (14P): disconnected
      Audio display unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM): disconnected
      HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector: disconnected
    Test circuits  Connector: Audio unit connector C (14P)

    GA AUDIO L+ to GA AUDIO R+, SH GA AUDIO, GA AUDIO L-, GA AUDIO R- No. 1 (RED) No. 2 (WHT), No. 3 (GRY), No. 7 (GRN), No. 8 (BLK)
    GA AUDIO R+ to SH GA AUDIO, GA AUDIO L-, GA AUDIO R- No. 2 (WHT) No. 3 (GRY), No. 7 (GRN), No. 8 (BLK)
    SH GA AUDIO to GA AUDIO L-, GA AUDIO R- No. 3 (GRY) No. 7 (GRN), No. 8 (BLK)

    Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the audio display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The GA AUDIO wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 8.

  8. Open wire check (GA AUDIO lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector C (14P): disconnected
      Audio display unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM): disconnected
      HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit  Test point 1:Audio unit connector C (14P)  Test point 2:Audio display unit connector A (32P) 
    GA AUDIO L+ No. 1 (RED) No. 9 (RED)
    GA AUDIO R+ No. 2 (WHT) No. 8 (WHT)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GA AUDIO wires are OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the audio display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

  9. Audio unit check

    -1. Substitute a known-good audio display unit .

    -2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.

    Does the symptom go away?

    YES 

    Replace the original audio display unit.

    NO 

    Replace the audio unit .
