Audio System - Poor or no sound with XM radio (Audio-navigation unit does display XM channels) (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022)

Poor or no sound with XM radio (Audio-navigation unit does display XM channels) 

NOTE: 

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Park the vehicle outside with a clear view of the southern horizon.

    -2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -3. Turn on the audio system, and select the XM.

    -4. Select an active XM station.

    Is the audio output from the speakers when playing the XM radio?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.

  2. Shorted wire check (TUN AUDIO lines) 1

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Audio-navigation unit connector E (5P)
    Tuner unit connector A (20P)

    -3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector E (5P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (20P): disconnected

    Tuner unit connector A (20P) TUN AUDIO L- No. 3 (WHT)
    TUN AUDIO R- No. 4 (RED)
    TUN AUDIO L+ No. 13 (GRN)
    TUN AUDIO R+ No. 14 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The TUN AUDIO wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 3.

  3. Shorted wire check (TUN AUDIO lines) 2

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector E (5P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (20P): disconnected
    Test circuits  Connector: Tuner unit connector A (20P) 
    Test point 1  Test points 2 
    TUN AUDIO L- to TUN AUDIO R-, TUN AUDIO SH, TUN AUDIO L+, TUN AUDIO R+ No. 3 (WHT) No. 4 (RED), No. 5 (GRY), No. 13 (GRN), No. 14 (BLK)
    TUN AUDIO R- to TUN AUDIO SH, TUN AUDIO L+, TUN AUDIO R+ No. 4 (RED) No. 5 (GRY), No. 13 (GRN), No. 14 (BLK)
    TUN AUDIO SH to TUN AUDIO L+, TUN AUDIO R+ No. 5 (GRY) No. 13 (GRN), No. 14 (BLK)
    TUN AUDIO L+ to TUN AUDIO R+ No. 13 (GRN) No. 14 (BLK)

    Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The TUN AUDIO wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 4.

  4. Open wire check (TUN AUDIO lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector E (5P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (20P): disconnected
    Test circuit  Test point 1:Tuner unit connector A (20P)  Test point 2:Audio-navigation unit connector E (5P) 
    TUN AUDIO L- No. 3 (WHT) No. 2 (WHT)
    TUN AUDIO R- No. 4 (RED) No. 4 (RED)
    TUN AUDIO L+ No. 13 (GRN) No. 3 (GRN)
    TUN AUDIO R+ No. 14 (BLK) No. 5 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The TUN AUDIO wires are OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

  5. Tuner unit check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good tuner unit .

    -2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.

    Does the symptom go away?

    YES 

    Replace the original tuner unit.

    NO 

    Replace the audio-navigation unit .
