Audio - Poor or no sound with AM/FM radio(Without Navigation) (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022)

Poor or no sound with AM/FM radio 

NOTE: 

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Park the vehicle in an open area.

    -2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -3. Turn on the audio system, and select AM or FM radio station.

    Is the sound quality normal?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.

  2. Reception/interference check

    -1. Check if the radio reception/interference is the same as the known-good vehicle in several locations.

    Is the AM or FM sound quality the same?

    YES 

    Multipath interference or weak station. Operation is normal.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Seek stop test

    -1. Do the Seek Stop Test in the Sound Quality Diagnosis .

    Is the test vehicle within 10 % of the known-good vehicle?

    YES 

    Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Determine possible failure area (SWD +B line, AM/FM line)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P)

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Turn on the audio unit.

    -5. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition ON mode
      AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P): disconnected
    Test circuit SWD +B
    Test point 1 AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P) No. 1
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The SWD +B wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  5. Shorted wire check (SWD +B line)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Tuner unit connector B (5P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test circuit SWD +B
    Test point 1 AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P) No. 1
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the tuner unit and the AM/FM/XM antenna.

    NO 

    The SWD +B wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 6.

  6. Open wire check (SWD +B line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test circuit SWD +B
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector B (5P) No. 1
    Test point 2 AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P) No. 1

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the tuner unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the tuner unit and the AM/FM/XM antenna.

  7. Shorted wire check (AM/FM line)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Tuner unit connector B (5P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test circuit AM/FM
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector B (5P) No. 2
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the antenna rear lead.

    NO 

    The AM/FM wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 8.

  8. Shorted wire check (AM/FM line to SH (AM/FM) line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test circuit AM/FM, SH (AM/FM)
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector B (5P) No. 2
    Test point 2 Tuner unit connector B (5P) No. 4 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the antenna rear lead.

    NO 

    The AM/FM wire is not shorted to SH(AM/FM) wire. Go to step 9.

  9. Open wire check (AM/FM line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test circuit AM/FM
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector B (5P) No. 2
    Test point 2 AM/FM/XM antenna connector A (3P) No. 2

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The AM/FM wire is OK. Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Replace the antenna rear lead.

  10. AM/FM antenna check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good AM/FM/XM antenna .

    -2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.

    Does the symptom go away?

    YES 

    Replace the original AM/FM/XM antenna.

    NO 

    Replace the tuner unit .

  11. Shorted wire check (TUN AUDIO lines) 1

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Audio unit connector E (5P)
    Tuner unit connector A (20P)

    -3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector E (5P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (20P): disconnected

    TUN AUDIO R- No. 4 (RED)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The TUN AUDIO wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 12.

  12. Shorted wire check (TUN AUDIO lines) 2

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector E (5P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (20P): disconnected
    Test circuits  Connector: Tuner unit connector A (20P) 
    Test point 1  Test points 2 
    TUN AUDIO L- to TUN AUDIO R-, TUN AUDIO SH, TUN AUDIO L+, TUN AUDIO R+ No. 3 (WHT) No. 4 (RED), No. 5 (GRY), No. 13 (GRN), No. 14 (BLK)

    Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The TUN AUDIO wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 13.

  13. Open wire check (TUN AUDIO lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector E (5P): disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (20P): disconnected
    Test circuit  Test point 1:Tuner unit connector A (20P)  Test point 2:Audio unit connector E (5P) 
    TUN AUDIO L- No. 3 (WHT) No. 2 (WHT)
    TUN AUDIO R- No. 4 (RED) No. 4 (RED)
    TUN AUDIO L+ No. 13 (GRN) No. 3 (GRN)
    TUN AUDIO R+ No. 14 (BLK) No. 5 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The TUN AUDIO wires are OK. Go to step 14.

    NO 

    There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

  14. Tuner unit check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good tuner unit .

    -2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.

    Does the symptom go away?

    YES 

    Replace the original tuner unit.

    NO 

    Replace the audio unit .
