EPS indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored (2014 2015 2016 2017)

NOTE:  The all sensor learn in the VSA system may not have properly completed.

  1. All DTCs check except EPS system

    -1. Do the All DTCs check with the HDS.

    All DTCs

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Gauge control module operation check

    -1. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function .

    Is the gauge control module OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the gauge control module .

  3. Fuse check 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. C6 (7.5 A)
    Location Under-hood fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair the short to ground on the No. C6 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.

  4. Fuse check 2

    -1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. A1 (80 A)
    Location Battery terminal fuse box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 5.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair the short to ground on the No. A1 (80 A) fuse circuit.

  5. Open wire check (IG1 OP1 (7.5 A) line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector B (6P)

    -2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
    Test circuit IG1 OP1 (7.5 A)
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector B (6P) No. 6 (BLU)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 OP1 (7.5 A) wire is OK. Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the No. C6 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the EPS control unit.

  6. Open wire check (GND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (2P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (2P): disconnected
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
    Test circuit GND
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (2P) No. 1 (BLK)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and body ground (T6).

  7. Open wire check (+B EPS (100 A) line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (2P): disconnected
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
    Test circuit +B EPS (100 A)
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (2P) No. 2 (RED)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B EPS (100 A) wire is OK. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the No.A1 (80 A) fuse in the battery terminal fuse box and the EPS control unit.

  8. F-CAN circuit communication check

    -1. Reconnect the following connectors.

    EPS control unit connector A (2P)
    EPS control unit connector B (6P)

    -2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    EPS control unit is Not Available

    Go to step 9.

    Gauge control module is Not Available

    Go to step 10.

    EPS control unit and gauge control module are Detected

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NOTE:

    Intermittent Failures The term ''intermittent failure'' means a system may have had a failure, but it checks OK now. If you cannot reproduce the condition, check for loose connections and terminals. Also check ground and power connections related to the circuit that you are troubleshooting.

  9. Open wire check (F-CAN C_L, F-CAN C_H lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    EPS control unit connector B (6P)
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_L
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector B (6P) No. 2 (PUR)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 8 (PNK)
    Test circuit F-CAN C_H
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector B (6P) No. 5 (YEL)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN C_L and F-CAN C_H wires are OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the CAN gateway.

  10. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L, F-CAN A_H line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    CAN gateway 24P connector
    Gauge control module connector A (32P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
      Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN A_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15 (PNK)
    Test point 2 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 28 (PNK)
    Test circuit F-CAN A_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14 (BLU)
    Test point 2 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 27 (BLU)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Check for loose terminals in the CAN gateway 24P connector and gauge control module connector A (32P). If they are OK, substitute a known-good gauge control module , then retest. If the indicators come on then go off after substitution, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  11. EPS control unit check (update)

    -1. Reconnect the following connectors.

    EPS control unit connector B (6P)
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    -2. Update the EPS control unit if it does not have the latest software .

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then the ON mode.

    -4. Check the EPS indicator.

    Does the EPS indicator come on, then go off?

    YES 

    Troubleshooting is complete.

    NO 

    Check for loose terminals and poor connections at the EPS control unit. If the EPS control unit was updated and the symptom/indication is still present, replace the steering gearbox .
