DTC U0056-00 (With Navigation) (2014 2015)

DTC U0056-00  : CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information .

DTC Description DTC
U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

DTC (CAN gateway)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

  2. Shorted unit check (VSA modulator-control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    -3. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES (with ACC)

    Go to step 3.

    YES (without ACC)

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not have the latest software, then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the VSA modulator-control unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 was indicated after the VSA modulator-control unit updated, replace the original VSA modulator-control unit .

  3. Shorted unit check (ACC unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    ACC unit 20P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Update the ACC unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ACC unit , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the ACC unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the ACC unit was substituted, replace the original ACC unit .

  4. Shorted unit check (audio-navigation unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P)

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES (with FCW/LDW)

    Go to step 5.

    YES (without FCW/LDW)

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the audio-navigation unit was substituted, replace the original audio-navigation unit .

  5. Shorted unit check (FCW/LDW camera unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Update the FCW/LDW camera unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good FCW/LDW camera unit , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the FCW/LDW camera unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the FCW/LDW camera unit was substituted, replace the original FCW/LDW camera unit .

  6. Shorted unit check (steering angle sensor)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Steering angle sensor 4P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES (with LKAS)

    Go to step 7.

    YES (without LKAS)

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Substitute a known-good steering angle sensor , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the steering angle sensor was substituted, replace the original steering angle sensor .

  7. Shorted unit check (LKAS camera/control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    LKAS camera/control unit 8P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Update the LKAS camera/control unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good LKAS camera/control unit , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the LKAS camera/control unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the LKAS camera/control unit was substituted, replace the original LKAS camera/control unit .

  8. Shorted unit check (TPMS control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    TPMS control unit 20P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Substitute a known-good TPMS control unit , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the TPMS control unit was substituted, replace the original TPMS control unit .

  9. Shorted unit check (precision all wheel steer control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Precision all wheel steer control unit 16P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Update the precision all wheel steer control unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good precision all wheel steer control unit , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the precision all wheel steer control unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the precision all wheel steer control unit was substituted, replace the original precision all wheel steer control unit .

  10. Shorted unit check (EPS control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector B (6P)

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Update the EPS control unit if it does not have the latest software, then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the EPS control unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 was indicated after the EPS control unit updated, replace the original EPS control unit .

  11. Shorted wire check (F-CAN C_H line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    CAN gateway 24P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      ACC unit 20P connector (with ACC): disconnected
      Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
      FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector (with FCW/LDW): disconnected
      Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
      LKAS camera/control unit 8P connector (with LKAS): disconnected
      TPMS control unit 20P connector: disconnected
      Precision all wheel steer control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 9 (PUR)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN C_H wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    The F-CAN C_H wire is not short to ground. Go to step 12.

  12. Shorted wire check (F-CAN C_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      ACC unit 20P connector (with ACC): disconnected
      Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
      FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector (with FCW/LDW): disconnected
      Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
      LKAS camera/control unit 8P connector (with LKAS): disconnected
      TPMS control unit 20P connector: disconnected
      Precision all wheel steer control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 8 (PNK)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN C_L wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    The F-CAN C_L wire is not short to ground. Go to step 13.

  13. Shorted wire check (F-CAN C_H line to F-CAN C_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
      ACC unit 20P connector (with ACC): disconnected
      Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
      FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector (with FCW/LDW): disconnected
      Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
      LKAS camera/control unit 8P connector (with LKAS): disconnected
      TPMS control unit 20P connector: disconnected
      Precision all wheel steer control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      EPS control unit connector B (6P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_H, F-CAN C_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 9 (PUR)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 8 (PNK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN C_H wire to the F-CAN C_L wire between CAN gateway terminals No. 8 and No. 9.

    NO 

    Update the CAN gateway if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good CAN gateway , then recheck. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0056-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was substituted, replace the original CAN gateway .
