DTC U0029-00 (Electric Parking Brake Control Unit (With CAN Gateway)) (2017 2018)

DTC U0029-00  : F-CAN Malfunction (Bus-Off)

NOTE: 

• Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .
• Troubleshoot any PGM-FI DTCs first - Refer to:

  How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems (2014-20) or

  How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2016-20)

• This DTC is stored by communication failure between the F-CAN line and the electric parking brake control unit. When DTC U0029-00 is indicated, the F-CAN line has already returned to normal. Check for loose terminals and poor connections in the connectors. If the connectors are OK, clear the DTC and following this troubleshooting.

DTC (Electric parking brake)

1. Electric parking brake control unit communication check

   - 1. Start the engine.

   - 2. Check for communication between the electric parking brake control unit and the HDS.

   Is there communication between the electric parking brake control unit and the HDS?

   YES 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

   NO 

   Go to step 2.

2. DTC check (CAN gateway system)

   - 1. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	DTC

   Is DTC indicated?

   YES 

   Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

   NO 

   Go to step 3.

3. F-CAN circuit communication check

   - 1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

   Which result is indicated?

   Electric parking brake control unit (Bus A) is Not Available

   Go to step 4.

   Electric parking brake control unit is Available

   Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good electric parking brake control unit , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good electric parking brake control unit, replace the original electric parking brake control unit .

4. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

   Electric parking brake control unit 30P connector

   CAN gateway 24P connector

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Electric parking brake control unit 30P connector: disconnected
   	CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
   Test circuit 1
   Test point 1	Electric parking brake control unit 30P connector No. 30
   Test point 2	CAN gateway 24P connector (female terminals) No. 14: (1)

   Test circuit 2
   Test point 1	Electric parking brake control unit 30P connector No. 29
   Test point 2	CAN gateway 24P connector (female terminals) No. 15: (1)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good electric parking brake control unit , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good electric parking brake control unit, replace the original electric parking brake control unit .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the wire between the electric parking brake control unit and the CAN gateway.
