Outside Air Temperature Indicator (2013 2014 2015): Procedure
NOTE: To test the outside air temperature sensor, refer to the outside air temperature sensor test procedure .
- Outside Air Temperature Indicator - Calibrate
Description
The outside air temperature sensor is located behind the center of the front bumper. The gauge control module uses measurements from this sensor to display the outside air temperature.
Because of the location of the sensor, it may be affected by heat reflection from the road, engine and radiator heat, or hot exhaust from surrounding traffic.
These conditions can heat soak the outside air temperature sensor and cause inaccurate readings. Logic has been written into the gauge control module to help prevent abnormal or fluctuating outside air temperature indicator readings.
Outside Air Temperature Indicator Logic
Engine coolant temperature 140 deg.F (60 deg.C) or higher:
If the engine coolant temperature is 140 deg.F (60 deg.C) or higher when the engine start/stop button is pressed to select the ON mode, the outside air temperature when the OFF mode was last selected is displayed, regardless of the current temperature measured by the outside air temperature sensor.
Engine coolant temperature less than 140 deg.F (60 deg.C):
If the engine coolant temperature is less than 140 deg.F (60 deg.C) or lower when the engine start/stop button is pressed to select the ON mode, the current temperature measured by the outside air temperature sensor is indicated.
Information Update to the Outside Air Temperature Indicator While Driving
Condition 1; Engine coolant temperature above 140 deg.F (60 deg.C).
The outside temperature indicator will display the temperature reading that was indicated when the OFF mode was last selected.
When the outside air temperature is higher than indicated, the indicator updates accordingly:
- First update: When the vehicle reaches and maintains a speed over 19 mph (30 km/h) for more than 90 seconds, the indicator will do the first increase of 1 deg. (F or C).
- Subsequent updates: If the vehicle continues to travel over 19 mph (30 km/h), the indicator will increase at a rate of 1 deg. (F or C) every 33 seconds until it matches the outside air temperature.
- If the vehicle speed drops below 19 mph (30 km/h), the indicator stops updating until the vehicle regains and maintains a speed over 19 mph (30 km/h) for more than 90 seconds.
When the outside air temperature is lower than indicated, the indicator will update at a rate of 1 deg.(F or C) per second until it matches the outside air temperature. Vehicle speed does not effect the the indicator's updating to a lower temperature.
Condition 2; Engine coolant temperature is 139 F (59 C) or less.
The outside temperature indicator will display the current out air temperature.

Troubleshooting
If the indicator displays - - - deg.F for more than 2 seconds after selecting the outside air temperature display mode, the gauge is not receiving the outside temperature data from the climate control unit over the B-CAN. Check the climate control system or multiplex integrated control system for DTCs (see B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A ).
Calibration
NOTE: The outside air temperature indicator's displayed temperature can be recalibrated +/-5 deg.F (+/-3 deg.C) to meet the client's expectations.
1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Push and hold the INFORMATION button for at least 3 seconds to enter the customizing mode.
3. While in the customizing mode, select "CHG SETTING", and enter "METER SETUP". Then select "ADJUST OUTSIDE TEMP. DISPLAY", and calibrate the value with the SEL/RESET switch and the INFORMATION switch.
4. When the desired correction value appears on the display, release the button, and the recalibrated outside air temperature will be displayed.NOTE: The recalibration temperature is not the value the sensor sees. Therefore the temperature can only be adjusted +/-5 deg.F (+/-3 deg.C) from the sensors.
Example:
Incorrect value = 68 deg.F (20 deg.C) Desired correction value = +2 deg.F (+1 deg.C) Correct value = 70 deg.F (21 deg.C) Desired correction value = -2 deg.F (-1 deg.C) Correct value = 66 deg.F (19 deg.C) NOTE: To recalibrate the display to the true temperature, remove the outside air temperature sensor (A), but leave it connected. Submerge the sensor and a thermometer (B) in a container of ice water (C). Select the calibration mode as described above, then recalibrate the display to the true temperature.

5. Mexico models: The snow mark is displayed when the temperature is 37 deg.F (3 deg.C) or less the first time you press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
