USB input sound is low or cannot be heard
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first .
- Check the USB device's volume settings.
- Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the client's USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result that USB devices may work in newer vehicles, but not in order vehicles of the same model.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Determine possible failure area (USB system, others)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-2. Do the Self-Diagnostic Function, and use the speaker check mode .
Do all speakers make a sound?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO: With premium audio
NO: Without premium audio
- Problem verification
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. On the client's vehicle, connect the client's USB device to the USB port located in the center console.
-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. Turn on the audio unit, and press the AUX button to select the USB mode.
-5. Check if the USB device can be operated with the audio unit (Folders or Files UP/DOWN, etc.).
Can you operate the USB device, and is the sound normal?
YES
Intermittent failure, the USB device is OK at this time.
NO: You can select USB device but sound is low or cannot be heard
The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.
NO: USB device does not work
Go to USB device does not function (without navigation) troubleshooting .
- Determine possible failure area (USB device, others)
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Connect the client's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.
Does the USB device work properly in the known-good vehicle?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
USB device is faulty or not compatible.
- Determine possible failure area (related unit, others)
-1. Return to the client's vehicle.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM) HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. Check if the USB audio can be played.
Is the USB audio sound normal?
YES: With XM
Go to step 5.
YES: Without XM
Replace the HandsFreeLink control unit .
NO
Go to step 6.
- HandsFreeLink control unit check
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Reconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector .
-3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
-4. Check if the USB audio can be played.
Is the USB audio sound normal?
YES
NO
- Shorted wire check (GA AUDIO lines) 1
-1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio unit connector C (14P) Audio display unit connector A (32P) -3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.

YES
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the audio display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The GA AUDIO wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 7.
- Shorted wire check (GA AUDIO lines) 2
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the audio display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The GA AUDIO wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 8.
- Open wire check (GA AUDIO lines)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

The GA AUDIO wires are OK. Go to step 9.
NO
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the audio display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Audio unit check
-1. Substitute a known-good audio display unit .
-2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original audio display unit.
NO
