DTC B0001-11: Short to Ground in the Driver's Airbag First Inflator (2015-17)

Special Tools Required: 

SRS Inflator Simulator 07SAZ-TB4011A 

SRS Simulator Lead J 070AZ-SNAA100 

NOTE: 

Before doing this troubleshooting procedure: 

Before replacing the SRS unit: 

DTC Description DTC
B0001-11 Short to ground in the driver's airbag first inflator  

DTC (SRS)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    - 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    B0001-11 Short to ground in the driver's airbag first inflator  

    Is DTC B0001-11 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the SRS . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

  2. Driver's airbag inflator check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

    - 3. Remove the driver's airbag.

    - 4. Disconnect the following connector.

    Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector (on the cable reel harness)

    NOTE:  Make sure to work with the driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector (A) that has a guide tab (B) on the right side of the No. 2 terminal as shown.

    - 5. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector No. 1 (on the cable reel harness)
    Terminal B Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector No. 2 (on the cable reel harness)

    - 6. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.

    - 7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    - 8. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    - 9. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    B0001-11 Short to ground in the driver's airbag first inflator  

    Is DTC B0001-11 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Short to ground in the driver's airbag first inflator; replace the driver's airbag , then clear the DTC.

  3. Cable reel check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

    - 3. Remove the jumper wire from the driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector on the cable reel harness.

    - 4. Remove the column covers.

    - 5. Disconnect cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

    - 6. Connect the terminals of SRS simulator lead J to the SRS inflator simulator (2 Ω connectors), then connect SRS simulator lead J to cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

    - 7. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.

    - 8. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    - 9. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    - 10.Check for DTCs with the HDS - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the SRS .

    DTC Description DTC
    B0001-11 Short to ground in the driver's airbag first inflator  

    Is DTC B0001-11 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Short to ground in the cable reel; replace the cable reel , then clear the DTC.

  4. Shorted wire check (LA1+, LA1- lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    SRS unit connector A (39P)

    - 4. Disconnect the SRS inflator simulator from SRS simulator lead J. Do not disconnect SRS simulator lead J from cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

    - 5. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector (on the cable reel harness): disconnected
    Cable reel connector B (4P) (on the dashboard wire harness): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Cable reel connector B (4P) (on the dashboard wire harness): connected to SRS simulator lead J
    Test point 1 SRS simulator lead J black terminal
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

    YES 

    The LA1+ and LA1- wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation . If the DTC does not clear, replace the dashboard wire harness.

    NO 

    Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.
