    GHH350230Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.
    1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    2. Connect the MVCI to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

NOTE:  Update can not be done when the HDS is connected to the MVCI.

    3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not start the engine.

    4. Make sure the MVCI communicates with vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting

    .

  2. E-Pretensioner Unit - Update
    NOTE:
    • Make sure the HDS or the MVCI has the latest HDS software version.
    • Before you update the E-pretensioner unit, make sure the battery in the vehicle is fully charged, and connect a jumper battery (not a battery charger) to maintain system voltage.
    • To ensure the latest program is installed, do an E-pretensioner unit update whenever the E-pretensioner unit is substituted or replaced.
    • You cannot update an E-pretensioner unit with the program it already has. It will only accept a new program.
    • Refer to the MVCI CM Update Manual for more details.

    1. Select the E-Pretensioner unit L or R from the CM update menu on the MVCI.

NOTE:  The E-Pretensioner unit has two ECUs (one unit at each side). You must update both units.

    2. If the software in the E-pretensioner unit is the latest, disconnect the updating tool from the DLC, and go back to the procedure that you were doing. If the software in the E-pretensioner unit is not the latest, follow the instructions on the screen.

NOTE:  If you run into a problem during the update procedure (programming takes over 15 minutes, status bar goes over 100%, D position or immobilizer indicator flashes, MVCI screen freezes, etc.), follow these steps to minimize the chance of damaging the E-pretensioner unit:

    • Keep the vehicle in ON mode.
    • Connect a jumper battery (do not connect a battery charger).
    • Shut down the updating tool.
    • Disconnect the updating tool from the DLC.
    • Reboot the updating tools.
    • Reconnect the updating tool to the DLC, and try the update procedure again.

    3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
