EPS indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored (With CAN Gateway (With Auto Idle Stop System)) (2019 2020)

NOTE:

The all sensor learn in the VSA system may not have properly completed.

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Start the engine.

    - 2. Check the EPS indicator.

    Does the EPS indicator come on, then go off?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. All DTCs check

    -1. All DTCs check with the HDS.

    All DTCs

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Fuse check 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B2-1 - Refer to: Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020)

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. B2-1 fuse circuit.

  4. Fuse check 2

    -1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. D24 - Refer to: Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020)

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 5.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. D24 fuse circuit.

  5. Fuse check 3

    -1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. H4 - Refer to: Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020)

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 6.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. H4 fuse circuit.

  6. DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 check

    -1. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2, and test it.

    Is the relay OK?

    YES 

    The relay is OK. Reinstall the relay, then go to step 7.

    NO 

    Replace the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 - Refer to: Relay and Control Unit Locations (2017 2018 2019 2020) .

  7. Open wire check (IG1 VSA (DC/DC) line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 9 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA (DC/DC) wire is OK. Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Go to step 8.

  8. Open wire check (IG1 VSA (DC/DC), IG1 RLY2 (DC/DC) lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 9 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 
    Test point 2 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 2:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA (DC/DC) and the IG1 RLY2 (DC/DC) wires are OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.

  9. Open wire check (+B OUT2 line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    DC-DC converter connector B (5P)

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 DC-DC converter connector B (5P) (female terminals) No. 5:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The +B OUT2 wire is OK. Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.

  10. Open wire check (IG1 ACG line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 ACG wire is OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.

  11. Open wire check (GND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed
      DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected
    Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 4:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Replace the DC-DC converter .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 and body ground (G501).

  12. Open wire check (+B EPS line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 2 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B EPS wire is OK. Go to step 13.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the main under-hood fuse box and the EPS control unit.

  13. Open wire check (EPS GND line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 1 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The EPS GND wire is OK. Go to step 14.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and body ground (G401).

  14. F-CAN circuit communication check

    -1. Reconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 2. Select FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    EPS control unit (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 15.

    Gauge control module (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 16.

    EPS control unit and gauge control module are Available

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

  15. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)
    CAN gateway 16P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 10 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test circuit 2  
    Test point 1 EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 11 - Refer to: EPS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good EPS control unit , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good EPS control unit, replace the original EPS control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the CAN gateway.

  16. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 2

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Gauge control module connector A (32P)
    CAN gateway 16P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 Gauge control module connector A (32P) (female terminals) No. 27:
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test circuit 2  
    Test point 1 Gauge control module connector A (32P) (female terminals) No. 28:
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good gauge control module , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good gauge control module, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.
