DTC B2860-13 : Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Spool Sensor Power or Signal Circuit Open
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review General Troubleshooting Information .
- Before replacing the E-pretensioner unit, check the E-pretensioner unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the E-pretensioner unit software , and retest.
- When you replace the E-pretensioner unit, check the HDS and replace the indicated side of E-pretensioner unit on the HDS.

DTC (E-pretensioner)
- Problem verification
- 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B2860-13 Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Spool Sensor Power or Signal Circuit Open Is DTC B2860-13 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.
- Spool sensor input voltage check
- 1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.
Signal Current conditions Values Unit Front Passenger's Spool Sensor A Input Voltage Front Passenger's Spool Sensor B Input Voltage Are spool sensors A and B indicated 0 V?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO (Only spool sensor A is indicated)
Go to step 5.
NO (Only spool sensor B is indicated)
Go to step 7.
- Open wire check (R SPOOL PWR line) 1
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit R SPOOL PWR Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector No. 3 (WHT) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .
NO
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (R SPOOL PWR line) 2
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit R SPOOL PWR Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 8 (WHT) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
Repair an open in the wire between the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
NO
The R SPOOL PWR wire is OK. Replace the E-pretensioner unit .
- Open wire check (R SPOOL A line) 1
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test circuit R SPOOL A Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector No. 2 (YEL) Test point 2 Body ground When slowly pulling out the seat belt, does the voltage change from 0 V?
YES
Go to step 6.
NO
Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .
- Open wire check (R SPOOL A line) 2
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit R SPOOL A Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 12 (YEL) Test point 2 Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector No. 2 (YEL) Is there continuity?
YES
The R SPOOL A wire is OK. Replace the E-pretensioner unit .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
- Open wire check (R SPOOL B line) 1
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test circuit R SPOOL B Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector No. 1 (PUR) Test point 2 Body ground When slowly pulling out the seat belt, does the voltage change from 0 V?
YES
Go to step 8.
NO
Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .
- Open wire check (R SPOOL B line) 2
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit R SPOOL B Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 6 (PUR) Test point 2 Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector No. 1 (PUR) Is there continuity?
YES
The R SPOOL B wire is OK. Replace the E-pretensioner unit .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
