DTC B2851-11  : Driver's E-Pretensioner Spool Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Another Signal Circuit

NOTE:  Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review General Troubleshooting Information .

DTC (E-pretensioner)

1. Problem verification

   - 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

   - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   B2851-11 Driver's E-Pretensioner Spool Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Another Signal Circuit

   Is DTC B2851-11 indicated?

   YES 

   The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

   NO 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.

2. L SPOOL A line check 1

   - 1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Signal	Current conditions
   	Values	Unit
   Driver's Spool Sensor A Input Voltage

   When slowly pulling out the seat belt, is there battery voltage?

   YES 

   Go to step 6.

   NO 

   Go to step 3.

3. L SPOOL A line check 2

   - 1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Signal	Current conditions
   	Values	Unit
   Driver's Spool Sensor A Input Voltage

   When slowly pulling out the seat belt, is there 0 V?

   YES 

   Go to step 4.

   NO 

   Go to step 5.

4. Shorted wire check (L SPOOL A line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected
   Test circuit	L SPOOL A
   Test point 1	Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 14 (RED)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short to ground in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector and the driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor.

   NO 

   The L SPOOL A wire is OK. Faulty driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the driver's seat belt .

5. Shorted wire check (L SPOOL A line to L SPOOL B line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected
   Test circuit	L SPOOL A, L SPOOL B
   Test point 1	Driver's E-pretensioner unit connector A (16P) No. 14 (RED)
   Test point 2	Driver's E-pretensioner unit connector A (16P) No. 8 (ORN)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short in the wires between the driver's E-pretensioner unit and the driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor.

   NO 

   The L SPOOL A and L SPOOL B wires are OK. Faulty driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the driver's seat belt .

6. Shorted wire check (L SPOOL PWR line to L SPOOL A line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected
   Test circuit	L SPOOL PWR, L SPOOL A
   Test point 1	Driver's E-pretensioner unit connector A (16P) No. 10 (GRY)
   Test point 2	Driver's E-pretensioner unit connector A (16P) No. 14 (RED)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short in the wires between the driver's E-pretensioner unit connector and the driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor.

   NO 

   The L SPOOL PWR and L SPOOL A wires are OK. Faulty driver's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the driver's seat belt .
