DTC U0101-00 (2016 SRS Unit) (With CAN Gateway)
DTC U0101-00 : Lost Communication With the PCM (PGM-FI system)
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures , General Troubleshooting Information , and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection - Refer to: Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (2016), .
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software , and retest.

DTC (SRS)
- Body electrical system check
-1. Check for any F-CAN and B-CAN communication DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC Are there any communication DTCs?
YES
Go to the appropriate DTC troubleshooting.
NO
Go to step 2.
- DTC check
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC U0101-00 Lost communication with the PCM (PGM-FI system) Is DTC U0101-00 indicated?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Brake Booster Pressure Monitoring System (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020), or How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems(With Auto Idle Stop System) (2016), or How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems, . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- CAN gateway system DTC check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off U0047-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch B Bus Off U3000-49 CAN Gateway Internal Failure Is DTC U0029-00, U0047-00, and/or U3000-49 indicated?
YES
Go to the troubleshooting for CAN gateway system DTC(s) .
NO
Go to step 4.
- F-CAN circuit communication check
-1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

Which result is indicated?
PCM (Bus A) is Not Available
Go to step 5.
PCM (Bus B) is Not Available
Go to step 6.
SRS UNIT is Not Available
Go to step 7.
PCM and SRS UNIT are Detected
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems, or How to Troubleshoot the Brake Booster Pressure Monitoring System (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020), or How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems(With Auto Idle Stop System) (2016) . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
NOTE: This step must be done to protect the PCM from damage.- 3. Disconnect the following connectors.
CAN gateway 24P connector PCM connector A (51P) - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected PCM connector A (51P): disconnected Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14 Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15 Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 10 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2014 2015), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) Is there continuity?
YES
The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the PCM. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, then retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2016) .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the PCM and the CAN gateway.
- Open wire check (F-CAN B_H, F-CAN B_L lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
NOTE: This step must be done to protect the PCM from damage.- 3. Disconnect the following connectors.
CAN gateway 24P connector PCM connector A (51P) - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected PCM connector A (51P): disconnected Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 11 Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 11 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 10 Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 12 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), Is there continuity?
YES
The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the PCM. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, then retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2016) .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the PCM and the CAN gateway.
- Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- 3. Disconnect the following connectors.
SRS unit connector A (39P) CAN gateway 24P connector - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 20 - Refer to: SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14 Test point 1 SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 21 - Refer to: SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15 Is there continuity?
YES
The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the SRS unit connector A (39P) of the SRS unit. If the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation .
NO
Replace an open in the wire between the CAN gateway and the SRS unit.
