DTC B0096-87 : No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (first)DTC B0097-87 : No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (second)
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information .
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software , and retest.

DTC (SRS)
- DTC check
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B0096-87 No signal from the right side impact sensor (first) B0097-87 No signal from the right side impact sensor (second) Are DTCs indicated?
DTC B0096-87
Go to step 2.
DTC B0097-87
Go to step 12.
DTC B0096-4A or B0096-92
Replace the right side impact sensor (first) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation , then clear the DTC.
DTC B0097-4A or B0097-92
Replace the right side impact sensor (second) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation , then clear the DTC.
NO DTC
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- Connector connection check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following connector connections.
SRS unit connector B (39P) - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation, Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation Are the connectors OK?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
Go to step 3.
- System check
-1. Repair the poor connector connections whichever was the cause of the problem in step 2.
- 2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B0096-87 No signal from the right side impact sensor (first) Is B0096-87 indicated?
YES
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 4.
NO
The system is OK at this time.
- Right side impact sensor (first) substituting
-1. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (first).
- 2. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- 3. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B0096-87 No signal from the right side impact sensor (first) Is DTC B0096-87 indicated?
YES
Go to step 5.
NO
Replace the right side impact sensor (first) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation , then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (RBS1+ line to RBS1- line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- 3. Disconnect the following connectors.
SRS unit connector B (39P) - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation, Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation - 4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Test circuit RBS1+, RBS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 2 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 3 (on the floor wire harness) Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The RBS1+ and RBS1- wires are not shorted. Go to step 6.
NO
Short to another wire in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (RCS1+ line to RCS1- line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Test circuit RCS1+, RCS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 1 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 4 (on the floor wire harness) Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The RCS1+ and RCS1- wires are not shorted. Go to step 7.
NO
Short to another wire in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (RBS1+, RBS1- lines)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Test circuit RBS1+ Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 3 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Test circuit RBS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 2 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The RBS1+ and RBS1- wires are not shorted. Go to step 8.
NO
Short to ground in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (RCS1+, RCS1- lines)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Test circuit RCS1+ Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 1 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Test circuit RCS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 4 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?
YES
The RCS1+ and RCS1- wires are not shorted. Go to step 9.
NO
Short to ground in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (RBS1+, RBS1- lines to power)
-1. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Test circuit RBS1+ Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 3 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Test circuit RBS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 2 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Is there 0.2 V or less?
YES
The RBS1+ and RBS1- wires are not shorted to power. Go to step 10.
NO
Short to power in the right side wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (RCS1+, RCS1- lines to power)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Test circuit RCS1+ Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 1 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Test circuit RCS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 4 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Body ground Is there 0.2 V or less?
YES
The RCS1+ and RCS1- wires are not shorted to power. Go to step 11.
NO
Short to power in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Open wire check (RBS1+, RBS1- lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.
Terminal A SRS unit connector B (39P) No. 26 Terminal B SRS unit connector B (39P) No. 27 - 3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector B (39P): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected SRS unit connector B (39P) terminals No. 26 and No. 27: jumped Test circuit RBS1+, RBS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 2 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 3 (on the floor wire harness) Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The RBS1+ and RBS1- wires are OK. Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check the DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation, .
NO
Open in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
- Connector connection check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following connector connections.
SRS unit connector B (39P) - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020), or SRS Unit Removal and Installation Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation Are the connectors OK?
YES
Go to step 14.
NO
Go to step 13.
- System check
-1. Repair the poor connector connections whichever was the cause of the problem in step 12.
- 2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B0097-87 No signal from the right side impact sensor (second) Is DTC B0097-87 indicated?
YES
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 14.
NO
The system is OK at this time.
- Open wire check (RCS1+, RCS1- lines)
-1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.
Terminal A Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 1 (on the floor wire harness) Terminal B Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector No. 4 (on the floor wire harness) - 4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector (on the floor wire harness): disconnected Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 4 (on the floor wire harness): jumped Test circuit RCS1+, RCS1- Test point 1 Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector No. 1 (on the floor wire harness) Test point 2 Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector No. 2 (on the floor wire harness) Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The RCS1+ and RCS1- wires are OK. Replace the right side impact sensor (second) - Refer to: Side Impact Sensor (First) Removal and Installation, or Side Impact Sensor (Second) Removal and Installation , then clear the DTC.
NO
Open in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
