DTC B0004-1A : Decreased Resistance in the Driver's Knee Airbag Inflator DTC B0004-2B : Short to Another Wire in the Driver's Knee Airbag Inflator

Special Tools Required

-SRS Inflator Simulator 07SAZ-TB4011A

-SRS Simulator Lead L 070AZ-SNAA300

-SRS Short Canceller 070AZ-SAA0100

NOTE:

Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures , General Troubleshooting Information , and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection - Refer to: Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (2014 2015) .
Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software , and retest.

B0004-2B Short to another wire in the driver's knee airbag inflator

DTC (SRS)

Problem verification

-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

B0004-2B Short to another wire in the driver's knee airbag inflator

Is DTC B0004-1A or B0004-2B indicated?

YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

Driver's knee airbag inflator check

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

- 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

- 3. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover.

- 4. Disconnect the driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.

- 5. Connect the terminals of SRS simulator lead L to the SRS inflator simulator (2 Ω connectors), then connect SRS simulator lead L to the driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector on the dashboard wire harness.

- 6. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

- 7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

- 8. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

- 9. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

B0004-2B Short to another wire in the driver's knee airbag inflator

Is DTC B0004-1A or B0004-2B indicated?

YES

Go to step 3.

Short to another wire in the driver's knee airbag inflator; replace the driver's knee airbag , then clear the DTC.

Shorted wire check (FLBP+ line to FLBP- line)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

- 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

- 3. Disconnect the following connector.

SRS unit connector A (39P) - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2014 2015 2016) .

- 4. Disconnect the SRS inflator simulator from SRS simulator lead L. Do not disconnect SRS simulator lead L from the driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector on the dashboard wire harness.

- 5. Connect the SRS short canceller to SRS unit connector A (39P) terminals No. 14 and No. 15.

- 6. Measure the resistance of the test point.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	Driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector (on the dashboard wire harness): disconnected
	SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
	Driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector (on the dashboard wire harness): connected to SRS simulator lead L
	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 14 and No. 15: connected to SRS short canceller
Test circuit	FLBP+, FLBP-
Test point	SRS simulator lead L black terminal

Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

YES

The FLBP+ and FLBP- wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2014 2015 2016) . If the DTC does not clear, replace the dashboard wire harness.

Short to another wire in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.
