DTC B0004-12 : Short to Power in the Driver's Knee Airbag Inflator
Special Tools Required
-SRS Inflator Simulator 07SAZ-TB4011A
-SRS Simulator Lead L 070AZ-SNAA300
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number and were properly installed .
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures , General Troubleshooting Information , and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection. - Refer to: Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) .

DTC (SRS)
- Problem verification
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B0004-12 Short to power in the driver's knee airbag inflator Is DTC B0004-12 indicated-
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- Driver's knee airbag inflator check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- 3. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover.
- 4. Disconnect the driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.
- 5. Connect the terminals of SRS simulator lead L to the SRS inflator simulator (2 Ω connectors), then connect SRS simulator lead L to the driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector on the dashboard wire harness.
- 6. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- 7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 8. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 9. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B0004-12 Short to power in the driver's knee airbag inflator Is DTC B0004-12 indicated?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Short to power in the driver's knee airbag inflator; replace the driver's knee airbag , then clear the DTC.
- Shorted wire check (FLBP+, FLBP- lines to power)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- 3. Disconnect the following connector.
SRS unit connector A (39P) - 4. Disconnect the SRS inflator simulator from SRS simulator lead L. Do not disconnect SRS simulator lead L from the driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector on the dashboard wire harness.
- 5. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 7. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector (on the dashboard wire harness): disconnected SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected Driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector (on the dashboard wire harness): connected to SRS simulator lead L Test point 1 SRS simulator lead L black terminal Test point 2 Body ground Is there 0.2 V or less?
YES
The FLBP+ and FLBP- wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020), . If the DTC does not clear, replace the dashboard wire harness.
NO
Short to power in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.
