DTC 82-23 (2014 2015 2016)

DTC 82-23 : No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (rear inner side)

NOTE:

Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information .
Make sure the harness under the front passenger's seat is not pinched or interfering with other parts.

Problem verification

-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 82-23 indicated?

YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

Open wire check (SWSP2 line)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

- 2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.

- 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

- 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
Test condition	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSP2
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector No. 1 (BLK) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there about 5 V?

YES

The SWSP2 wire is OK. Go to step 3.

Open in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

Shorted wire check (SWSS2 line)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

- 2. Disconnect the following connector.

Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector C (6P)

- 3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Test condition	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector C (6P): disconnected
	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSS2
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector C (6P) No. 5 (BLU)
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

YES

The SWSS2 wire is not shorted. Go to step 4.

Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

Shorted wire check (SWSS2 line to SWSG2 line)

-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Test condition	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector C (6P): disconnected
	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSS2, SWSG2
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector No. 2 (BLU) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)
Test point 2	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector No. 3 (LT GRN) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)

Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

YES

The SWSS2 and SWSG2 wires are not shorted. Go to step 5.

YES

Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

Open wire check (SWSS2 lines)

-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector C (6P): disconnected
	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
Test circuit	SWSS2
Test point 1	Front passenger's weight sensor unit connector C (6P) No. 5 (BLU)
Test point 2	Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector No. 2 (BLU) (on the front passenger's seat wire harness)

Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

YES

Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors - Refer to: Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Removal and Installation (2014 2015 2016) , then clear the DTC.

Open in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
