F-CAN Circuit Troubleshooting (2016, Without CAN Gateway)

F-CAN Circuit Troubleshooting 

  1. F-CAN A circuit resistance check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector A (51P)

    - 4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test point 1 PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 10 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), .

    Is there about 69-90 -?

    YES 

    Go to step 22.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line to F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connectors.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016),
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 10 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire to F-CAN A_L wire between PCM terminals A9 and A10.

    NO 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are not shorted. Go to step 3.

  3. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 1

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 27 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Input Test (2016),
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is not open. Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the gauge control module.

  4. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 2

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 TCM 58P connector No. 34
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is not open. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the TCM.

  5. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 3

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is not open. Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  6. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 4

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected

    Is there continuity?

    YES (Without multipurpose camera)

    The F-CAN A_H wire is not open. Go to step 8.

    YES (With multipurpose camera)

    The F-CAN A_H wire is not open. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the EPS control unit.

  7. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 5

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the multipurpose camera unit.

  8. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 6

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is not open. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the Keyless access/TPMS control unit.

  9. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 7

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P): disconnected
    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector: disconnected
    Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
      SH-AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected

  10. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 8

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected

    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P): disconnected

    YES (With multipurpose camera)

    The F-CAN A_L wire is not open. Go to step 16.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_L wire between the PCM (A10) and the EPS control unit.

  16. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L line) 5

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector: disconnected
    EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected

  17. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L line) 6

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_L wire between the PCM (A10) and the keyless access/TPMS control unit.

  18. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L line) 7

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    TCM 58P connector: disconnected
    SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected

  24. Gauge control module check

    -1. Reconnect all connectors.

    - 2. Connect the HDS to the DLC.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Gauge control module 32P connector

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the gauge control module .

    NO 

    Reconnect the gauge control module 32P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 25.

  25. TCM check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    TCM 58P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the TCM .

    NO 

    Reconnect the TCM 58P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 26.

  26. SBW shifter control module check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    SBW shifter control module 20P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the SBW shifter control module .

    NO 

    Reconnect the SBW shifter control module 20P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 27.

  27. VSA modulator-control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the VSA modulator-control unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 28.

  28. Steering angle sensor check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Steering angle sensor 4P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the steering angle sensor .

    NO 

    Reconnect the steering angle sensor 4P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 29.

  29. ANC/active sound control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the ANC/active sound control unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect the ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 30.

  30. EPS control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the EPS control unit .

    NO (Without multipurpose camera)

    Reconnect EPS control unit connector A (11P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 32.

    NO (With multipurpose camera)

    Reconnect EPS control unit connector A (11P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 31.

  31. Multipurpose camera unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Multipurpose camera unit 20P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the multipurpose camera unit - Refer to: Millimeter Wave Radar Removal and Installation (2016), .

    NO 

    Reconnect the multipurpose camera unit 20P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 32.

  32. SRS unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure, and wait for at least 3 minutes.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    SRS unit connector A (39P)

    - 4. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2014 2015 2016)

    NO (Without SH-AWD)

    Reconnect SRS unit connector A (39P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 34.

    NO (With SH-AWD)

    Reconnect SRS unit connector A (39P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 33.

  33. SH-AWD control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    SH-AWD control unit 24P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the SH-AWD control unit - Refer to: SH-AWD® Control Unit Removal and Installation (SH-AWD) (2016) .

    NO 

    Reconnect the SH-AWD control unit 24P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 34.

  34. Audio-navigation unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Audio-navigation unit connector F (18P)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the audio-navigation unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect audio-navigation unit connector F (18P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 35.

  35. Engine mount control unit check
