SRS DTC 82-14

DTC 82-14  : No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (front inner side)

DTC Description DTC
82-14 No signal from the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side)  

DTC (SRS)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

    -2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    -3. Check for DTCs with the HDS .

    DTC Description DTC
    82-14 No signal from the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side)  

    Is DTC 82-14 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

  2. SWS DTC check

    -1. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .

    DTC Description DTC
    14-11 Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) power circuit  
    14-12 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) power circuit  
    14-13 Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) output circuit  
    14-14 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) output circuit  

    Is an SWS DTC also indicated?

    SWS DTC 14-11 

    Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) power circuit; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

    SWS DTC 14-12 

    Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) power circuit. Go to step 3.

    SWS DTC 14-13 

    Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) output circuit. Go to step 6.

    SWS DTC 14-14 

    Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) output circuit. Go to step 8.

  3. Front passenger's weight sensor check

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

    -5. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    -6. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .

    DTC Description DTC
    14-12 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) power circuit  

    Is SWS DTC 14-12 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.

  4. Shorted wire check (WS1P line)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. From under the front passenger's seat cushion, release the elastic strap from the seat cushion frame springs .

    -3. Release the bottom hooks, and unzip the seat-back cover .

    -4. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit .

    -5. Remove the cover (A) and the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.

    -6. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
    Front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
    ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit WS1P
    Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 5 (RED)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

    YES 

    The WS1P wire is not shorted. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

  5. Shorted wire check (WS1P line to WS1G line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
    Front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
    ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit WS1P, WS1G
    Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 5 (RED)
    Test point 2 ODS unit 18P connector No. 17 (BLK)

    Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

    YES 

    The WS1P and WS1G wires are OK. Replace the ODS unit , then clear the DTC.

    NO 

    Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

  6. Front passenger's weight sensor check

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Swap the connections between the front inner side front passenger's weight sensor and the rear inner side sensor.

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

    -5. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    -6. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .

    DTC Description DTC
    14-13 Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) output circuit  

    Is SWS DTC 14-13 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.

  7. Shorted wire check (WS1O line to power)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness, and the front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (B) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.

    -3. From under the front passenger's seat cushion, release the elastic strap from the seat cushion frame springs .

    -4. Release the bottom hooks, and unzip the seat-back cover .

    -5. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit .

    -6. Remove the cover (A) and the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.

    -7. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -8. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition ON mode
    Front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
    Front passenger's weight sensor (rear inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
    ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit WS1O
    Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 11 (BRN)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 0.2 V or less?

    YES 

    The WS1O wire is OK. Replace the ODS unit , then clear the DTC.

    NO 

    Short to power in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

  8. Front passenger's weight sensor check

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.

    -3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS .

    -5. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    -6. Check for SWS DTCs with the HDS .

    DTC Description DTC
    14-14 Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) output circuit  

    Is SWS DTC 14-14 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors , then clear the DTC.

  9. Shorted wire check (WS1O line)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. From under the front passenger's seat cushion, release the elastic strap from the seat cushion frame springs .

    -3. Release the bottom hooks, and unzip the seat-back cover .

    -4. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit .

    -5. Remove the cover (A) and the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.

    -6. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
    Front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
    ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit WS1O
    Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 11 (BRN)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

    YES 

    The WS1O wire is not shorted. Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.

  10. Shorted wire check (WS1O line to WS1G line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
    Front passenger's weight sensor (front inner side) 3P connector (on the front passenger's seat wire harness): disconnected
    ODS unit 18P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit WS1O, WS1G
    Test point 1 ODS unit 18P connector No. 11 (BRN)
    Test point 2 ODS unit 18P connector No. 17 (BLK)

    Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MΩ?

    YES 

    The WS1O and WS1G wires are OK. Replace the ODS unit , then clear the DTC.

    NO 

    Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
