DTC U017F-00 : Lost Communication with the Driver's E-Pretensioner Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review General Troubleshooting Information .
- Before replacing the E-pretensioner unit, check the E-pretensioner unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the E-pretensioner unit software , and retest.
- When you replace the E-pretensioner unit, check the HDS and replace the indicated side of E-pretensioner unit on the HDS.

- Problem verification
- 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
- Fuse check
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. E26 (30 A) Location Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Is the fuse OK?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Replace the fuse, then turn the vehicle to the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box No. E26 (30 A) fuse circuit.
- Fuse check
- 1. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. B2-2 (60 A) Location Main under-hood fuse box Is the fuse OK?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
Replace the fuse, then turn the vehicle to the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the under-hood fuse/relay box No. B2-2 (60 A) fuse circuit.
- Open wire check (+ B E-PT L line)
- 1. Disconnect the following connector.
Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected Test circuit + B E-PT L Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 1 (GRN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The + B E-PT L wire is OK. Go to step 5.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit and the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Open wire check (PGND line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected Test circuit PGND Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 4 (BLK) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 6.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit and body ground at G602.
- Open wire check (F-CAN_H, F-CAN_L lines)
- 1. Disconnect the following connector.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected Test circuit F-CAN_H Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 12 (WHT) Test point 2 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 10 (WHT) Test circuit F-CAN_L Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 13 (BRN) Test point 2 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 11 (BRN) Is there continuity?
YES
The F-CAN_H and F-CAN_L wires are OK. Substitute a known-good E-pretensioner unit , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good E-pretensioner unit, replace the original E-pretensioner unit .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit.
