ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off (With CAN Gateway (Without Auto Idle Stop System)) (2016)

ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off 

NOTE:  Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the VSA modulator-control unit. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting - Refer to: DLC Circuit Troubleshooting (With CAN Gateway) (2016)

  1. All DTCs check

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. All DTCs check with the HDS.

    All DTCs

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Fuse check 1

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B2-7 (20 A)
    Location Main under-hood fuse box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. B2-7 (20 A) fuse circuit.

  3. Fuse check 2

    - 1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. D23 (7. 5 A)
    Location Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. D23 (7. 5 A) fuse circuit.

  4. Open wire check (IG1 SAFETY line)

    - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 36 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 SAFETY wire is OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  5. Open wire check (FSR+B line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 4 - Refer to : VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The FSR+B wire is OK. Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the main under-hood fuse box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  6. Open wire check (PGND line)

    - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 3 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G203).

  7. F-CAN circuit communication check

    - 1. Reconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    Gauge control module (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 8.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 9.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus B) is Not Available

    Go to step 10.

    VSA modulator-control unit and gauge control module are Detected

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the VSA System (2014 2015 2016), 

  8. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 1

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Gauge control module connector A (32P)
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1
    Test point 1 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 27
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
    Test circuit 2
    Test point 1 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 28
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for loose terminals in the gauge control module connector A (32P) and the CAN gateway 24P connector. If they are OK, substitute a known-good gauge control module , then recheck. If the indicators come on then go off after substitution, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  9. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 2

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 38 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
    Test circuit 2
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 26 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.

  10. Open wire check (F-CAN B_H, F-CAN B_L lines)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 31 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 11
    Test circuit 2
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 20 - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN B_H and F-CAN B_L wires are OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.

  11. VSA modulator-control unit check (update)

    - 1. Reconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 2. Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not have the latest software.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the ON mode.

    - 4. Check the ABS indicator, the brake system indicator (red), the VSA indicator, and the brake system indicator (amber) for several seconds when turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    Do the indicators come on, then go off?

    YES 

    Troubleshooting is complete.

    NO 

    Check for loose terminals and poor connections in the VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector. If the VSA modulator-control unit was updated and the symptom/indication is still present, replace the VSA modulator-control unit .
