Exterior Lights System Description - Control/Function(KA/KC model) (2016 2017)
Headlights Function
The headlights are controlled by the relay control module, based on B-CAN input signals from MICU.
Headlights Auto-OFF Function
When the headlights auto-off function is selected, the exterior lights automatically turn off when the vehicle is in the OFF (LOCK) mode, and the driver's door is opened and closed. The timing for turning off the exterior lights can be customized in the multi-information display (MID) to suit the client's needs.
LED Headlight Fault Detection Function
The LED control unit sends a 10 Hz (duty 50 %) signal to the relay control module when the headlight is on. If the relay control module receives a 5 Hz (duty 50 %) signal, the relay control module judges an LED assembly is faulty. If the relay control module receives anything other than a 5 Hz or 10 Hz signal, the relay control module judges the LED control unit is faulty.
Turn Signal/Hazard Warning Light Function
The turn signal/hazard warning lights are controlled by the MICU based on the combination light switch or hazard warning switch signal. The MICU monitors current value to detect a wire break of the turn signal lights. In a case of an abnormal value, it is registered as a wire break, which leads to an increased turn signal lighting frequency. 130 ms after ON/OFF change of the turn signal output, the current values are sampled three times every 10 ms. When the sampling of the current value shows a discrepancy three times, this is registered as a wire break. When all three signals coincide twice in a row, it is considered to be the normal condition. When the sampling of the current value is outside the threshold value range all three times, this is registered as a wire break, when all three values are within the threshold value range, it is considered to be the normal condition.
One-Push Turn Signal
With the vehicle in the ON mode, if there is a brief input from the turn signal switch, the MICU flashes the left or right turn signal three times in succession.
Daytime Running Lights Function
For daytime running light control, the relay control module controls the LED control unit (low beam) based on the combination light switch signal, the parking brake signal, the auto light signal, and then turns on the light. When the combination light switch is in the OFF, AUTO, or the PARKING position at the time of power ON mode and the parking brake switch is turned off, the relay control module transmits an output value to the LED control unit (low beam). The LED control unit (low beam) activates the lights during an output from 40 % to 75 %. When the combination light switch is in the ON or the AUTO position and the low beam output signal from the automatic lighting control unit is inputted to the relay control module, daytime running light control is not performed.
Automatic Lighting ON/OFF Control
The output voltage from the automatic lighting/rain sensor varies depending on the brightness around the vehicle. 5 seconds after when the output voltage becomes less than the light ON threshold, the parking lights, the side marker lights, the taillights, the license plate lights, and the headlights turn on. 5 seconds after when the output voltage becomes higher than the light OFF threshold, the parking lights, the side marker lights, the taillights, the license plate lights, and the headlights turn off.
Wiper Linked Mode (USA models)
When the wiper switch is in a position other than OFF, the automatic lighting/rain sensor counts and records the windshield wiper auto stop signal (edge count) within 20 seconds from the windshield wiper control unit/motor. After a total of 5 counts, it switches to wiper linked mode and turns on the headlights, the side marker lights, and the parking lights. The ON/OFF signals at the time of windshield washer operation are not counted. When an edge count is received for 30 seconds or longer, the count is reduced by 1, and shifting to normal mode is done when the count reaches 0. The windshield wipers return to normal when the vehicle is stopped, or when the respective switch is set to OFF.
Warning Function
The automatic lighting/rain sensor sends an indicator signal to the gauge control module in case of failure of the automatic lighting sensor or when the signal sent from the MICU and windshield wiper control unit/motor by the B-CAN is abnormal.
Interior Lights Brightness Change Control
Regardless of the combination light switch AUTO position, the automatic lighting/rain sensor controls brightness for daytime brightness or night brightness. The automatic lighting/rain sensor sends the signal for control to the gauge control module with the B-CAN.
Sensitivity Adjustment Function
Sensitivity adjustment function of the automatic lighting system can be customized with the HDS and gauge control module. You can select the customized timing from 5 types (Min, Lo, Mid, Hi, Max) sensitivity. The customization information can be stored after receiving a remote ID signal (DRIVER 1 or DRIVER 2) from the MICU.
Welcome Lights Function
When approaching a locked vehicle with the remote, the doors are unlocked by keyless operation, and the keyless access/TPMS control unit sends a lighting signal to the door multiplex control unit to turn on the door outer handle lights.
