DTC P084F : Park/Neutral Switch Output Circuit

- This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.
- The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

DTC (A/T)
- Problem verification
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- 3. Start the engine.
- 4. While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission to N position/mode and wait for several seconds.
- 5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame P084F Park/Neutral Switch Output Circuit Is DTC P084F indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections and loose terminals at the TCM. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.
- Open wire check (PARKOUT line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
TCM 58P connector Under-dash fuse/relay box connector E (36 P) - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode TCM 58P connector: disconnected Under-dash fuse/relay box connector E (36 P): disconnected Test point 1 TCM 58P connector No. 32 Test point 2 Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (16 P) No. 14 - Refer to: Fuse/Relay Box Connector Locations (2014 2015), or Fuse/Relay Box Connector Locations (2016), or Fuse/Relay Box Connector Locations (2017 2018 2019 2020) Is there continuity?
YES
The PARKOUT wire is not open. Go to step 3.
NO
Repair an open in the PARKOUT wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the TCM.
- Shorted wire check (PARKOUT line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode TCM 58P connector: disconnected Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (16 P): disconnected Test point 1 TCM 58P connector No. 32 Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to ground in the PARKOUT wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the TCM.
NO
The PARKOUT wire is OK. Update the TCM if it does not have the latest software , or substitute a known-good TCM , then recheck. If this DTC goes away and the TCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If this DTC goes away and the TCM was substituted, replace the original TCM .
