DTC P0627

DTC P0627  : Fuel Pump Control (FPC) System Malfunction

DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC
P0627 Fuel Pump Control (FPC) System Malfunction    

DTC (PGM-FI)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 3. Try to start the engine.

    - 4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P0627 Fuel Pump Control (FPC) System Malfunction    

    Is DTC P0627 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at fuel pump control module, PGM-FI main relay 2, the fuel tank unit, and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems, or How to Troubleshoot the A/T System (2014 2015), or How to Troubleshoot the Brake Booster Pressure Monitoring System (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020), or How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems(With Auto Idle Stop System) (2016) .

  2. Fuse check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. D21 (20 A)
    Location Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Check for a short to ground on the No. D21 (20 A) fuse circuit, if needed, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation, or Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation . Also replace the No. D21 (20 A) fuse.

  3. Determine possible failure area (IGP line or PGND line, others)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 4:

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Open wire check (PGND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 4:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the PGND wire between the fuel pump control module and G602.

  5. Relay check (PGM-FI main relay 2)

    -1. Remove PGM-FI main relay 2 (A) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

    - 2. Test PGM-FI main relay 2.

    Is the relay OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Replace PGM-FI main relay 2.

  6. Determine possible failure area (IGP line, others)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  7. Open wire check (IGP line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (32P)

    - 3. Remove PGM-FI main relay 1 (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

    - 4. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A PGM-FI main relay 1 4P socket (female terminals) No. 2:
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 5. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PGM-FI main relay 1: disconnected
    PGM-FI main relay 1 4P socket terminal No. 2: jumped to body ground
    PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
    Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (32P): disconnected
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (32P) (female terminals) No. 9:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IGP wire is not open. Replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation, or Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IGP wire between PGM-FI main relay 1 and the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

  8. Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box internal circuit check (IG1 FUEL PUMP line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 FUEL PUMP circuit in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box is OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation, or Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation .

  9. Open wire check (IGP line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:
    Terminal B PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 2:

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
    PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket terminals No. 1 and No. 2: jumped
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IGP wire is OK. Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IGP wire between PGM-FI main relay 2 and the fuel pump control module.

  10. Open wire check (IMOFLR line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Remove the jumper wire from the PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket

    - 3. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

    SCS short

    - 4. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector A (51P)

    - 5. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 4:
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 6. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
    PGM-FI main relay 2 4P socket terminal No. 4: jumped to body ground
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test point 1 PCM connector A (51P) No. 8 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2014 2015), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IMOFLR wire is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2016), or PCM Removal and Installation (2014 2015) .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IMOFLR wire between the PCM (A8) and PGM-FI main relay 2.

  11. Fuel pump control module operation check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Reconnect the following connector.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and check for sound from the fuel pump within 2 seconds.

    Does the fuel pump operate?

    YES 

    Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Go to step 17.

  12. Shorted wire check (FPCD line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

    SCS short

    - 3. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector
    PCM connector A (51P)

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
      Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
      PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the FPCD wire between the PCM (A28) and the fuel pump control module.

    NO 

    The FPCD wire is not shorted. Go to step 13.

  13. Open wire check (FPCD line)

    -1. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PGM-FI main relay 2: disconnected
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector terminal No. 3: jumped to body ground
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test point 1 PCM connector A (51P) No. 2 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2014 2015), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) 8
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The FPCD wire is OK. Go to step 14

    NO 

    Repair an open in the FPCD wire between the PCM (A28) and the fuel pump control module.

  14. FPCD line signal check

    -1. Remove the jumper wire from the fuel pump control module.

    - 2. Reconnect all connectors, and reinstall PGM-FI main relay 2.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there about 8 V or more?

    YES 

    Go to step 15.

    NO 

    Replace the fuel pump control module.

  15. Shorted wire check (FP- line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector
    Fuel tank unit 4P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
      Fuel tank unit 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 5:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the FP- wire between the fuel pump control module and the fuel tank unit.

    NO 

    The FP- wire is OK. Go to step 16.

  16. Fuel pump control module check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good fuel pump control module.

    - 2. Reconnect all connectors.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Reset the PCM with the HDS.

    Reset PCM

    - 5. Do the PCM idle learn procedure.

    - 6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P0627 Fuel Pump Control (FPC) System Malfunction    

    Is DTC P0627 indicated?

    YES 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2014 2015), or PCM Removal and Installation (2016) .

    NO 

    Replace the original fuel pump control module .

  17. Shorted wire check (FPC line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

    SCS short

    - 3. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector
    PCM connector A (51P)

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
      PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the FPC wire between the PCM (A29) and the fuel pump control module.

    NO 

    The FPC wire is not shorted. Go to step 18.

  18. Open wire check (FPC line)

    -1. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector terminal No. 2: jumped to body ground
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test point 1 PCM connector A (51P) No. 29 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2014 2015), or PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The FPC wire is OK. Go to step 19

    NO 

    Repair an open in the FPC wire between the PCM (A29) and the fuel pump control module.

  19. Fuel pump control module operation check

    -1. Remove the jumper wire from the fuel pump control module 6P connector.

    - 2. Reconnect all connectors.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode within 2 seconds from turning Vehicle ON mode
    Test circuit FPC
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Go to step 20.

    NO 

    Replace the fuel pump control module ..

  20. Open wire check (FP+ line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector
    Fuel tank unit 4P connector

    - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Fuel tank unit 4P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Fuel tank unit 4P connector: disconnected
    Fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 1: jumped to body ground
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 6:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The FP+ wire is OK. Go to step 21.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the FP+ wire between the fuel pump control module and the fuel tank unit.

  21. Open wire check (FP- line)

    -1. Remove the jumper wire from the fuel tank unit 4P connector.

    - 2. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal B Body ground

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Fuel pump control module 6P connector: disconnected
    Fuel tank unit 4P connector: disconnected
    Fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 3: jumped to body ground
    Test point 1 Fuel pump control module 6P connector (female terminals) No. 5:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The FP- wire is OK. Go to step 22.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the FP- wire between the fuel pump control module and the fuel tank unit.

  22. Determine possible failure area (fuel pump, others)

    -1. Remove the jumper wire from the fuel tank unit 4P connector.

    - 2. Reconnect the following connector.

    Fuel pump control module 6P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode within 2 seconds from turning Vehicle ON mode
    Test point 1 Fuel tank unit 4P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Replace the fuel pump .

    NO 

    Go to step 23.

  23. Fuel pump control module check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good fuel pump control module.

    - 2. Reconnect all connectors.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Reset the PCM with the HDS.

    Reset PCM

    - 5. Do the PCM idle learn procedure.

    - 6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC P0627 indicated?

    YES

    NO 

    Replace the original fuel pump control module .
