F-CAN Circuit Troubleshooting 

1. F-CAN A circuit resistance check

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

   - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

   PCM connector A (51P)

   - 4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
   Test point 1	PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020)
   Test point 2	PCM connector A (51P) No. 10 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020)

   Is there about 74-90 -?

   YES 

   Go to step 20.

   NO 

   Go to step 2.

2. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line to F-CAN A_L line)

   -1. Disconnect the following connectors.

   • Gauge control module connector A (32P)
   • TCM 58P connector
   • SBW shifter control module 20P connector
   • VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
   • Steering angle sensor 4P connector
   • ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector
   • EPS control unit connector A (11P)
   • Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P)
   • SRS unit connector A (39P) - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020)
   • Electric parking brake control unit 30P connector
   • Engine mount control unit 16P connector

   - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   	Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
   	TCM 58P connector: disconnected
   	SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected

   	Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire to F-CAN A_L wire between PCM terminals A9 and A10.

   NO 

   The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are not shorted. Go to step 3.

3. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 1

   -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
   	Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
   	TCM 58P connector: disconnected
   	SBW shifter control module 20P connector: disconnected

   NO 

   Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the gauge control module.

4. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line) 2

   -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    -1. Reconnect EPS control unit connector A (11P).

    - 2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    The EPS control unit is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) .

    NO 

    Replace the EPS control unit .

20. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connectors.

    • Gauge control module connector A (32P)
    • TCM 58P connector
    • SBW shifter control module 20P connector
    • VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    • Steering angle sensor 4P connector
    • ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector
    • EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire between the PCM (A9) and the gauge control module, the TCM, the SBW shifter control module, the VSA modulator-control unit, the steering angle sensor, the ANC/active sound control unit, the EPS control unit, the keyless access/TPMS control unit, the SRS unit, the engine mount control unit, or the DLC.

    NO 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is OK. Go to step 21.

21. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    	Engine mount control unit 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1	PCM connector A (51P) No. 10 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2	Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_L wire between the PCM (A10) and the gauge control module, the TCM, the SBW shifter control module, the VSA modulator-control unit, the steering angle sensor, the ANC/active sound control unit, the EPS control unit, the keyless access/TPMS control unit, the SRS unit, the engine mount control unit, or the DLC.

    NO 

    The F-CAN A_L wire is OK. Go to step 22.

22. Gauge control module check

    -1. Reconnect all connectors.

    - 2. Connect the HDS to the DLC.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Gauge control module 32P connector

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the gauge control module .

    NO 

    Reconnect the gauge control module 32P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 23.

23. TCM check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    TCM 58P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the TCM .

    NO 

    Reconnect the TCM 58P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 24.

24. SBW shifter control module check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    SBW shifter control module 20P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the SBW shifter control module .

    NO 

    Reconnect the SBW shifter control module 20P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 25.

25. VSA modulator-control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the VSA modulator-control unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 26.

26. Steering angle sensor check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Steering angle sensor 4P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the steering angle sensor .

    NO 

    Reconnect the steering angle sensor 4P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 27.

27. ANC/active sound control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the ANC/active sound control unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect the ANC/active sound control unit 20P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 28.

28. EPS control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the EPS control unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect EPS control unit connector A (11P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 29.

29. SRS unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure, and wait for at least 3 minutes.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    SRS unit connector A (39P)

    - 4. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020), .

    NO 

    Reconnect SRS unit connector A (39P) with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 30.

30. Electric parking brake control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Electric parking brake control unit 30P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the electric parking brake control unit .

    NO 

    Reconnect electric parking brake control unit 30P connector with vehicle in OFF (LOCK) mode, then go to step 31.

31. Engine mount control unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Engine mount control unit 16P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and read the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Replace the engine mount control unit .

    NO 

    • Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good keyless access/TPMS control unit .
